'Colours of Vietnam' Exhibition of Do Paper Artworks opens in Vladivostok
WVR - On August 15, the exhibition "Huong sac Viet Nam" (Colours of Vietnam) by artist Ngo Duc Hoang opened at the Artatage Contemporary Art Centre in Vladivostok City, showcasing nearly 30 artworks created on traditional Do paper. These works bring the delicate colors of Vietnam's nature, people, and culture closer to the Russian public in the Far East.

The exhibition is organized by the Vietnamese Consulate General in Vladivostok, in collaboration with the Vladivostok City authorities. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Primorye, the Primorye Duma, the Vladivostok City administration, the Consular Corps in Vladivostok, the Vietnam Friendship Association in Primorye, the Vietnamese Association in Primorye, the Vladivostok Artists Association, and a large number of the Vietnamese community and art enthusiasts.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Mayor of Vladivostok Daria Vladimirovna Stegniy highly appreciated the significance of the exhibition in enhancing cultural exchanges and connecting the peoples of Vietnam and Russia.
She stressed that the works showcased at the exhibition not only offer the Vladivostok public an opportunity to enjoy art but also open up an emotional perspective on the country and people of Vietnam.

At the event, Vietnamese Consul General in Vladivostok Nguyen Viet Kien stated that “Huong sac Viet Nam” is a meaningful cultural activity reflecting the close cooperation between the Vietnamese Consulate General and Vladivostok City.
According to the Consul General, Vladivostok has long been a historical connection point, a cultural exchange hub, and a place that strengthens the friendship between Vietnam and Russia, between the Vietnamese people and the people of Vladivostok, and among those with a profound love for the art of painting.

The highlight of the exhibition is nearly 30 artworks by artist Ngo Duc Hoang, created on Do paper, a special and durable traditional material of Vietnam. Recently, in his artistic journey, the artist has frequently chosen and used Do paper as a material closely associated with his creative style.
The works were created between 2021 and 2026, exploring various themes about the homeland and the country, from urban life to the mountainous regions of the Northwest, from natural landscapes to images of the lotus, Vietnam's national flower.

Each painting is a story told through colors, capturing the moments and emotions of the artist in front of Vietnam's nature and people.
On the traditional material, the artworks at the exhibition combine realistic, impressionistic, and romantic brushwork, creating a blend of contemporary breath and cultural memories. Through the language of painting, Vietnam's landscapes, nature, and people appear in various shades, from simple and familiar to vast and rich in emotion.
Artist Ngo Duc Hoang has been devoted to painting for over 30 years and has succeeded in various materials such as oil, silk, and lacquer. However, for this art introduction in Vladivostok, he chose Do paper as the main material, thereby introducing the uniqueness of traditional Vietnamese art to the international public.

The exhibition also garnered attention from the art community and Vietnam enthusiasts in Vladivostok. Mr. Solovyov Sergey Vladimirovich, Director of the Artetage Contemporary Art Center, noted that he had witnessed many international artist groups coming to Vladivostok to showcase their works, but most were group exhibitions. Therefore, he was impressed by the fact that this time a Vietnamese artist organized a solo exhibition with a large number of works in Vladivostok.
Russian Vietnamologist Daria Dmitrievna Mishukova, who attended the exhibition, also expressed a special impression of the works depicting lotuses and flowers from the Northwest region, and she expressed her fondness for the Do paper material used in the creations.

A highlight at the opening ceremony was the live painting demonstration on Do paper by artist Ngo Duc Hoang. In front of guests and the public, the artist created a piece depicting Hanoi's old quarter, recreating the image of street vendors and the characteristic rhythm of the capital. This activity allowed viewers to directly experience the artist's creative process as well as the flexibility and delicacy of Do paper.
Sharing about the exhibition, artist Ngo Duc Hoang expressed his desire to introduce the rustic, simple, and distinctly Vietnamese beauty through his works on Do paper. He also hopes to infuse contemporary breath into traditional materials, contributing to extending Vietnamese cultural values and creating more connections between art lovers in both countries. He expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese Consulate General in Vladivostok, the Vladivostok City government, and the organizing unit for their support in bringing the exhibition to the public.
“Huong sac Viet Nam” runs until August 23 at the Artetage Contemporary Art Center, Vladivostok. The exhibition aims to promote cultural exchanges, strengthen people-to-people connections, and bring the friendly and rich image of Vietnam closer to the Russian public in the Far East.
