Closing ceremony of the Vietnamese teaching methodology training course for overseas Vietnamese teachers
On August 27, in Hanoi, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held the closing ceremony of the Vietnamese teaching methodology training course for overseas Vietnamese teachers in 2026.

The event was attended by Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese; Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi; lecturers, representatives from the Vietnam Education Publishing House, organizations, guests, and 50 trainees.

The training course lasted over two weeks, with 50 teachers from 14 countries and territories participating in 21 sessions of learning, practice, and observation.
The program combined professional knowledge with pedagogical methods and experiences of Vietnamese culture and history, focusing on topics such as teaching phonetics, vocabulary, writing, classroom management, assessment, and integrating Vietnamese culture, history, and people into teaching.
Practical activities at historical sites, museums, and educational institutions provided trainees with additional materials, experiences, and inspiration to incorporate into their lessons.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien acknowledged the serious, responsible, and dedicated learning spirit of the teachers; he also emphasized the role of overseas Vietnamese language teachers as “Vietnamese language ambassadors”, “cultural ambassadors”, and “friendship ambassadors” within the community.
Through teaching Vietnamese, the teachers contribute to helping the younger generation better understand the language, culture, history, and people of Vietnam, thereby strengthening their connection to their homeland and national identity.

The training course was organized shortly after the Politburo issued Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW on August 2, 2026, regarding Overseas Vietnamese affairs in the new context, reaffirming the importance of preserving the Vietnamese language, national cultural identity, and strengthening the connection of overseas Vietnamese with their homeland.
According to the Chairman of the Committee, the knowledge and experiences gained from the course will help enhance teaching effectiveness, foster love for the homeland, and awareness of roots among the younger generation of overseas Vietnamese.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son affirmed that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has a long-standing tradition of teaching Vietnamese, starting in 1956.
The university has developed a Vietnamese language proficiency framework for foreigners, organized Vietnamese language certification exams, and promoted Vietnamese language teaching for Overseas Vietnamese on digital platforms. The university is committed to continuing its mission of preserving and spreading the Vietnamese language.
The trainees highly appreciated the practicality of the course and cultural experiences. Korean representative, Ms. Dao Thi Anh Tuyet, stated that returning to Vietnam not only enhanced teaching methods but also deepened understanding of Vietnamese culture, history, and people.

Experiences at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, Tam Chuc, Do Temple, Dinh Bang communal house, and Quan ho Bac Ninh activities became valuable materials to incorporate into the classroom.
Ms. Pham Thi Linh, a representative from Taiwan (China), emphasised the connecting value of the training course. Fifty trainees from various countries and territories shared methods, materials, initiatives, and practical experiences, recognizing that each Vietnamese language class, cultural activity, or helping a child born abroad maintain Vietnamese with their family are practical ways to “keep the fire” of the Vietnamese language alive.
Class president Nguyen Thi Lien from Malaysia noted that sessions with nearly 20 lecturers helped trainees access foundational knowledge and address real-world issues in overseas Vietnamese language classes, resolving many teaching challenges.
Besides learning, cultural experiences, art practice, lotus tea making, and yearbook creation fostered deep bonds and memories among the trainees.
The training course also expanded professional connections post-program. Some lecturers committed to organizing online classes to guide material usage; trainees shared books and experiences in applying AI to lesson planning.

According to Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese will continue to support teachers and the community through training programs, providing learning materials, and connecting experts and educational institutions. In December 2026, the Committee plans to organize an online training course.
The closing ceremony concludes the course but opens a new journey of connection and dissemination. Fifty teachers return to 14 countries and territories, carrying with them knowledge, methods, experiences of Vietnamese culture, and new professional relationships.
With dedication and love for the Vietnamese language, the teachers will continue to be seed sowers, bridges connecting the younger generation of overseas Vietnamese with their homeland, while also contributing to introducing the image, culture, and people of Vietnam to international friends.
