The organizers hope the model will attract more overseas students to return for volunteer activities each summer, contributing to fostering love for the homeland and encouraging young people to return and dedicate themselves to Ho Chi Minh City and the country after completing their studies.
On Thanh An Island Commune, the overseas students, along with city youth members, inaugurated the "Children's Playground" at Park Group 38 and the "Green Library" at Thanh An Primary School. They organized summer activities, played, and cooked with children, while also sharing study experiences, guiding on studying abroad, and providing scholarship search skills for local students.
These activities help create additional learning and play spaces for children on the island, while also inspiring learning, sparking aspirations for international integration, and nurturing dreams of advancement among students.
On this occasion, the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Youth Federation, in collaboration with accompanying units, awarded 5 full scholarships covering 4 years of tuition at public universities to 5 students facing difficult circumstances but with strong determination in Thanh An Commune, with a total value of 500 million VND. The total resources mobilized and donated during the program reached 755 million VND.
Sharing at the program, Dang Dinh Hung, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Student Association in Australia, stated that this is an opportunity for overseas students to contribute to their homeland. According to him, although the projects and volunteer activities are not large in scale, they contribute to improving the learning conditions and spiritual life of children and residents on the island.
Meanwhile, Tran Luong Thanh Tam, a student in Singapore, believes that the significance of the program lies not only in the projects implemented but also in the opportunity for overseas students to share their learning journeys with local students, spreading the message "go to return", study to later contribute to the country.
Besides volunteer activities, the team also visited Marine Border Guard Squadron 1, Command of the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard to learn about the management and protection of maritime and island sovereignty, thereby raising awareness about maritime and island sovereignty and the role of youth in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The Volunteer Team of Overseas Students is a new model implemented in the "Green Summer" Volunteer Campaign 2026, aiming to connect the Vietnamese overseas student community worldwide with volunteer and social welfare activities, while also harnessing the intellectual resources of young people towards their homeland and country.
