ASEAN Family Day 2026 held in New York, strengthening bonds and spreading the ASEAN Spirit
WVR - On August 15, in the outskirts of New York City, USA, the Permanent Missions to the United Nations and Consulates General of ASEAN member countries organized the ASEAN Family Day 2026.

The event saw the enthusiastic participation of Ambassadors, Heads of Missions, officials, staff, and their families. Notably, this was the first year Timor-Leste participated as an official member of ASEAN.
The program commenced with delegates observing a minute of silence for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Indonesia earlier that day, expressing sympathy, solidarity, and the unity of the “ASEAN family” with the Government and people of Indonesia.
In the lively and friendly atmosphere of the “ASEAN family”, Ambassadors, Heads of Missions, officials, and their families engaged in various cultural, sports, and group activities.
These activities were jointly organized by member Missions, providing opportunities for officials, staff, and families to interact, enhance understanding, and strengthen bonds. Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, along with officials and their families, actively participated in the day's events.

Besides cultural and sports activities, the culinary space remained a highlight of ASEAN Family Day. Each country introduced and shared traditional dishes and drinks, presenting a vivid picture of the region's rich and diverse culture and identity.
The Vietnam booth continued to be an attractive stop with pho bo, nem ran, goi cuon, iced milk coffee, and lemon tea, offering familiar and flavorful Vietnamese tastes amidst the colorful space of the “ASEAN Family”.

ASEAN Family Day 2026, coordinated by the Permanent Mission of the Philippines – the current Chair of the ASEAN Committee in New York (ANYC), continues to be a meaningful annual activity. It contributes to strengthening friendship, cohesion, and community spirit among member countries, while promoting the image of a united, close-knit ASEAN Community that is “united in diversity”.
