AEF 2026: Unlocking Vietnamese Coffee's opportunities in the Chinese market
Latest
On October 28 in Ho Chi Minh City, within the framework of the AEF 2026, Agrichain Trading and Service JSC and Dong Phuong Phai Investment Co., Ltd., based in Hainan, China, signed an MoU to cooperate on supplying Vietnamese coffee to the Chinese market.
According to Mr. Nguyen Canh Thang, Director of Agrichain, both parties aim to supply a total of 200,000 tons of coffee from 2026 to 2029. The implementation will be aligned with market demand and the enterprises' supply capacity.
Connecting the Vietnamese supply with the Chinese market
Under the MOU, Agrichain will provide Vietnamese green coffee beans, while the Chinese partner will handle importation and distribution in their market. The two main product lines are Robusta and Arabica, with Robusta accounting for at least 70% of the total supply and Arabica no more than 30%, or no more than 60,000 tons throughout the cooperation period. The product portfolio may be expanded based on mutual agreement.

The transaction price will be determined based on the reference price on the international coffee futures market, combined with surcharges or agreements for each shipment. After 12 months of cooperation, the two companies may negotiate to increase the scale of supply, depending on market developments and the Vietnamese side's response capacity.
According to Mr. Nguyen Canh Thang, the agreement is the result of a process of connecting and exchanging with Chinese partners, including activities at the Summer Economic Forum. The AEF 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City has facilitated the two parties to concretise cooperation opportunities by signing the MOU.
Enhancing transparency of origin, meeting import standards
Along with trade connectivity, the ability to meet quality and traceability requirements is a matter of concern for both parties.
According to Agrichain's leadership, the Chinese partner requires products to have clear information about the cultivation area and origin, while also complying with the food safety management regulations of the importing country.
To support the implementation of these requirements, Agrichain plans to apply a blockchain platform for agricultural product traceability. The platform, developed by a team of Vietnamese engineers, uses a server system located in Vietnam and can connect data to international partners.

The system is oriented to manage information throughout the cultivation area, production process, and supply stage, thereby supporting enterprises in tracking the origin of goods and providing data to importers. The application of technology is expected to enhance transparency and strengthen trust in the cooperation process.
The agreement was signed amid positive growth in Vietnam's coffee exports to China. According to data from the General Department of Customs compiled by the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first nine months of 2026, Vietnam exported 54,600 tons of coffee to this market, reaching 279.6 million USD, an increase of 48.8% in volume and 53.1% in value compared to the same period last year.
The demand for coffee in Chinese urban areas, along with the development of coffee shop chains, is creating additional opportunities for cooperation between enterprises from both countries. In this context, connecting supply sources, developing distribution systems, and enhancing traceability capabilities can lay the foundation for Vietnamese coffee to expand its presence in the Chinese market, contributing to promoting bilateral agricultural trade cooperation.
