The 14th National Party Congress is fast approaching. Could the Ambassador share your thoughts on the atmosphere leading up to the Congress?

The National Party Congress is always the most significant political event for the nation. The 14th Party Congress is expected to pave the way for Vietnam to enter a new era of growth.

Preparations for the Congress have been underway for over a year, marking a vibrant political activity across the Party and the entire political system. As a result, the 14th Congress has garnered significant attention not only from Party members and Vietnamese citizens but also from the international community.

As the Congress draws nearer, interest continues to grow. In the United States, where we are stationed, partners, friends in the Government, Congress, experts, scholars, and U.S. businesses are all expressing interest and seeking information about our Party Congress.

Especially, the Vietnamese community is enthusiastic and hopeful about the new prospects and opportunities the Congress will bring. Many have actively contributed opinions to the Congress's draft documents. Overall, the atmosphere is very lively as we head towards the 14th Party Congress.

With the Party's directive to enhance foreign relations and international integration as a "key and regular" task, how does the Ambassador assess the mission of Vietnam's overseas representative missions in fulfilling this task?

The primary mission of Vietnam's overseas representative missions is to conduct foreign affairs and directly implement the Party's foreign policy. Therefore, the Party's emphasis on enhancing foreign relations and international integration as a "key and regular" task is both a source of pride and a significant responsibility for these agencies.

This is a high requirement, as the results and impacts of international cooperation activities must be crucial for the nation, and these efforts must be maintained continuously and regularly.

In this spirit, the representative missions must further enhance their capacity, intensity, and scope of activities, closely monitor the situation, forecast trends, and provide accurate advice to seize opportunities and mitigate risks.

They must build and develop effective networks with domestic and international partners to implement cooperation programs and projects that bring practical and effective resources from abroad. The missions must also contribute to maximizing the resources of overseas Vietnamese for national development.

Could the Ambassador relate to the efforts made by the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States in recent times?

Recently, the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States has made significant efforts to build and develop networks with the U.S. Government, Congress, scholars, and businesses. It has facilitated and supported high-level visits, meetings, and calls between the two countries' leaders, successfully connecting numerous cooperation programs and projects in investment, business, and training, especially in high technology, helping to resolve difficulties for businesses on both sides.

The Embassy has also strengthened meetings and encouraged intellectuals and scholars from the Vietnamese community to contribute ideas and directly participate in projects and initiatives in Vietnam.

As a result, the Embassy has contributed to upgrading Vietnam-U.S. relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development. Bilateral trade has increased by an average of over 20% per year, U.S. investment in Vietnam has grown by 6-7%, and 700,000-800,000 U.S. tourists visit Vietnam annually.

Notably, in 2025, the change in U.S. administration posed many challenges, but the bilateral relationship remained stable and developed strongly across various fields, including war legacy remediation and cultural exchanges, marking the 50th anniversary of the end of the war and the 30th anniversary of normalized relations.

According to the Ambassador, what should be done to further leverage the resources of the Vietnamese community in the U.S. to contribute to the goal of making Vietnam a powerful nation by 2045?

The Vietnamese community in the United States is a valuable resource for our country's development. Currently, there are over 2.2 million Vietnamese living in the U.S., accounting for about 50% of the global Vietnamese diaspora. The community is growing stronger and playing a larger role in the U.S. socio-economic activities while always maintaining a connection to their homeland.

To effectively leverage the resources of overseas Vietnamese, it is essential to recognize the community as an indispensable entity in the journey towards a new era, aiming to make Vietnam a powerful nation by 2045.

Specifically, a stable legal framework is needed to instill confidence in the legal environment, encouraging overseas Vietnamese to invest, do business, study, and conduct research in Vietnam.

Secondly, identify priority areas to attract resources from overseas Vietnamese, such as science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, education, and healthcare—fields identified as strategic breakthroughs by the 14th Congress.

Thirdly, enhance exchange programs, scholarships, and internships for young overseas Vietnamese; organize specialized seminars and economic forums to connect overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs with local authorities, government agencies, and domestic businesses.

As the 14th National Party Congress and the Year of the Horse 2026 approach, what are the Ambassador's expectations and messages?

We are looking forward to the 14th Party Congress with excitement, hoping for a new breakthroughs and directions that will open opportunities for the nation's robust development and a prosperous, peaceful life for all of us. This expectation stems from a firm belief in the Party's leadership, which has been proven throughout the nation's journey.

I hope that under the Party's leadership, all Vietnamese people, wherever they are, will unite and work together to build a prosperous, powerful, and happy nation. Thus, the Year of the Horse 2026 will be a wonderful spring for all of us.

Thank you very much, Ambassador!
