The event was held at Delta Hall, a branch of the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia – Washington Semester Program, with the participation of school leaders, faculty, alumni, and students currently studying and interning in Washington D.C.

In his speech at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung reviewed the transformation of Vietnam-U.S. relations, from former adversaries to partners, and now a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The Ambassador emphasised that this achievement is the culmination of persistent efforts across generations, choosing dialogue, cooperation, and reconciliation to overcome differences and losses caused by the war.

According to the Ambassador, cooperation in searching for missing U.S. servicemen was initiated even before the two countries normalized diplomatic relations in 1995, becoming one of the first humanitarian contact channels between the two sides. Through joint efforts, officials, veterans, scientists, and communities from both countries gradually built trust, laying the groundwork for expanding cooperation into areas such as bomb and mine clearance, dioxin remediation, support for people with disabilities, and the search and identification of remains of Vietnamese martyrs.

The Ambassador affirmed that these programs have a tangible impact on improving people's lives: communities can live and produce in safer areas; people with disabilities have more opportunities for education and employment; and many families, after decades of waiting, can find their loved ones.

Praising the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the University of Georgia, the Ambassador acknowledged the school's contributions in combining historical research with satellite imagery, remote sensing technology, ground-penetrating radar, environmental DNA, and other new technologies and methods to assist in the search and identification of martyrs' remains.

Following the speech, Professor Matthew Auer, Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs, moderated a discussion with experts on maintaining and expanding Vietnam-U.S. cooperation. The activity provided students with practical insights into the bilateral relationship.
