Vietnamese Consulate General in China's Guangzhou hosts ASEAN-59 Anniversary Celebration
WVR - On August 12, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Guangzhou, in collaboration with the Consulates General of ASEAN countries in Guangzhou, including Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and the representative of the Brunei Consulate General in Nanning, solemnly organized the 59th Anniversary of ASEAN's founding (8/8/1967-8/8/2026).

The event was attended by representatives from Guangdong province, Guangzhou city, and neighbouring cities, consular corps from various countries in Guangzhou, and friends and the ASEAN community in the locality.
The 59th Anniversary of ASEAN's founding coincided with significant milestones in regional relations, as ASEAN and China reflect on 50 years since the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), and mark five years of establishing the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Over the past 59 years of development, ASEAN has become a common home for 11 member countries, playing a central role in promoting economic cooperation, social progress, and cultural exchange in Southeast Asia.
During the ASEAN-59 anniversary activities in Guangzhou, the ASEAN consular corps continued to enhance its role in connecting, coordinating, and promoting the image of the ASEAN community in the area.
Vietnam's proactive participation in these activities contributes to promoting solidarity, cooperation, and exchange among members, while also demonstrating Vietnam's positive contribution to the ASEAN Community building process.

Speaking at the ASEAN-59 Anniversary Celebration, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office He Rutang emphasised that the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is maintaining positive development momentum, with economic and trade cooperation continuing to be a key driver.
Accordingly, progress in the negotiations for the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (ACFTA) version 3.0 and the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) are providing a foundation for ASEAN-China cooperation.
According to the Deputy Director of the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, the province continues to play a pioneering role in cooperation with ASEAN countries, with numerous investment projects and economic linkages being implemented, including the Vietnam-China (Shenzhen-Hai Phong) Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, the Guangzhou-Singapore Knowledge City, and the Guang Thanh Nickel and Stainless Steel Industrial Park with Indonesia.
These projects are being promoted to enhance quality, efficiency, and contribute more substantively to regional economic integration.

Additionally, infrastructure cooperation and people-to-people exchanges continue to expand. The joint venture of Guangzhou and Shenzhen Urban Rail Transit Group winning a bid for an urban rail project in Vietnam demonstrates Guangdong's infrastructure construction capabilities gradually expanding into the ASEAN market.
In the cultural field, Guangdong has established sister-city relationships with 15 city pairs from ASEAN countries, while the Guangdong International Youth Art Competition increasingly attracts the participation of young people in the region, thereby enhancing understanding and connections between the people of both sides.
On this occasion, Mr. He Rutang also affirmed that Guangdong will continue to promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), thereby expanding the space for investment cooperation with ASEAN.
In the coming time, the province is ready to coordinate with ASEAN countries and ASEAN Consulates General in Guangzhou to promote cooperation in science and technology, industry, digital economy, green development, modern agriculture, culture, education, and tourism, contributing to deepening people-to-people exchanges and ASEAN-China relations.
During the Anniversary Celebration, delegates had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a cultural exchange space, enjoy unique traditional art performances from ASEAN countries, and savor culinary delights from various nations in the region.
