Consul General Pham Hai Anh addresses the Vietnam Business Forum 2026 in Perth

WVR - On the evening of July 29, in Perth, the Australia-Vietnam National Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the first Vietnam Business Forum with the theme “Promoting Trade, Investment, and Strategic Partnerships between Australia and Vietnam”.

Attendees of the Forum included Western Australia Premier Roger Cook, Perth Mayor Bruce Reynolds, government officials, Consuls General, Consuls, and Honorary Consuls from the United States, Malaysia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Italy, Brazil, Romania, along with representatives from numerous Australian businesses. Vietnamese Consul General in Perth, Pham Hai Anh, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the event.

In his opening remarks, Premier Roger Cook affirmed that Vietnam is one of Western Australia's priority partners in Southeast Asia.

He emphasized that Western Australia is emerging as a hub for the global clean energy transition with its advantages in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and strategic minerals. He expressed a desire to partner with Vietnam in the energy transition and sustainable development process.

Additionally, the Premier highly valued the potential cooperation between the two sides in areas such as education and training, high-tech agriculture, mining, innovation, and trade. He highlighted that his upcoming visit to Vietnam will open up many new cooperation opportunities between Western Australia and Vietnamese localities and businesses.

In his keynote address at the Forum, Consul General Pham Hai Anh emphasized that after more than two years of implementing the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, bilateral relations are thriving across all pillars of cooperation.

The Consul General introduced Vietnam's recent new policies and notable achievements, particularly in restructuring the government apparatus, reorganizing local governments at two levels, reducing and simplifying administrative procedures and business conditions. He also discussed the implementation of the Politburo's Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, as well as attracting foreign direct investment, creating the most favorable environment and conditions for rapid, sustainable development, enhancing trade, and attracting high-quality investment.

Announcing the positive results of Vietnam's economy in the first half of 2026, with high growth in GDP, trade, tourism, and foreign investment attraction, Consul General Pham Hai Anh affirmed Vietnam's strong capabilities will further deepen relations with Australia and Western Australia.

Believing that Vietnam and Western Australia share many similar goals and complementary advantages, the Consul General proposed three directions for future cooperation: Strengthening government connections and exchanging delegations at all levels to create a favourable framework; promoting educational links, cultural exchanges, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges to enhance understanding and connectivity, laying the foundation for long-term relationships; and focusing on implementing practical cooperation projects in priority areas such as science and technology and digital transformation, green economy and energy transition, education and high-quality human resource development, strategic minerals and supply chain resilience, expanding two-way trade and investment.

The Consul General expressed confidence that the upcoming visit to Vietnam by Western Australia Premier in September will create new momentum, contributing to making the cooperation between Vietnam and Western Australia more substantive and effective.

In speeches and exchanges at the event, representatives from the Australia-Vietnam National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other delegates emphasised the role and responsibility of the business community in realizing the cooperation directions between Vietnam and Australia. They highlighted the need to proactively seize cooperation opportunities to elevate economic, trade, and investment relations to match the political relationship between the two countries.
