During the meeting, Governor Rogério Lucas Zandamela welcomed Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin to Mozambique, highlighting that her appointment coincides with a significant milestone as the two nations commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (June 25, 1975 – June 25, 2025). He extended his best wishes for a successful tenure and expressed hope for enhanced bilateral ties.
Governor Zandamela provided the Ambassador with an overview of Mozambique's recent economic, financial, and monetary developments. Despite facing numerous challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and political and security instability following the recent general elections, the Mozambican government, particularly the Central Bank, has taken proactive, flexible, and decisive measures. These efforts have helped improve foreign currency liquidity and stabilize the macro-financial environment, yielding tangible and positive outcomes for the Mozambican people.
In response, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin briefed the Governor on Vietnam’s socio-economic situation, highlighting key economic, financial, and monetary policies. She emphasized that Vietnam’s prudent and flexible monetary policy has played a crucial role in maintaining economic stability, with inflation kept below 4.5% and GDP growth reaching 7.08% in 2024.
The Ambassador also underscored the encouraging progress in Vietnam-Mozambique cooperation across multiple sectors. She affirmed Vietnam’s desire to further deepen economic, trade, and investment ties with Mozambique—particularly in the financial and banking sectors—as a means of laying a solid foundation for bilateral trade development.
Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin called on the Central Bank of Mozambique to continue supporting Vietnamese enterprises investing and operating in the country. She also reiterated the Vietnamese Embassy’s readiness to act as a bridge connecting the Central Bank of Mozambique with the State Bank of Vietnam, as well as financial and credit institutions from both countries, to promote experience-sharing and strengthen cooperation.
Governor Rogério Lucas Zandamela has served as the head of the Central Bank of Mozambique since September 2016. Prior to this role, he held various senior positions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), working in countries including Armenia, Costa Rica, Gambia, Guatemala, Liberia, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Peru, and Zimbabwe. He also served as the IMF’s Resident Representative in Brazil.
