The food was collectively donated by the staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Mozambique as part of the Homeland Spring 2026 Program organized by the Embassy on February 1. This initiative reflects the humanitarian spirit and the Vietnamese tradition of “the good leaves protect the worn-out leaves”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin affirmed that supporting the people of Mozambique during difficult times is a practical gesture, showcasing the solidarity and mutual support of the Vietnamese community in Mozambique. It also contributes to strengthening the friendship, bond, and mutual trust between the peoples of Vietnam and Mozambique.

The Ambassador expressed confidence that with the efforts of the local government and people, the affected areas will soon overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives, and gradually recover from the disaster.

On behalf of the government and people of Maputo Province, Governor Manuel Tule expressed deep appreciation and gratitude for the timely and practical support from the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Mozambique, affirming that this is a vivid testament to the solidarity, cooperation, and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

From late December 2025 to early January 2026, Mozambique experienced severe floods in many areas, causing significant loss of life and property, with over 100 fatalities and nearly 700,000 people affected. Maputo Province was among the hardest-hit areas.

According to local authorities, more than 1,200 people are currently temporarily residing at the center in Boane District.
