Vietnam ranked third in 2023, but with an impressive growth rate over the past year, the country has now secured second place. This accomplishment signifies more than just a statistical milestone; it means a meaningful shift in teaching methodologies and learning strategies across schools nationwide.
2024 has been pivotal for Vietnam’s education sector, with a concerted effort toward digital transformation. Online tools and learning systems have increasingly become integral to teaching and learning. Integrating Learning Content Management Systems (LCMS) has become a mandatory criterion in the Ministry of Education and Training’s Digital Transformation Index. As a comprehensive LCMS platform, Khan Academy has been a valuable companion to millions of teachers and students across Vietnam, facilitating assessment, instruction, and effective learning.
Khan Academy is a free online educational platform offering various subjects, including Mathematics, Programming, Science, Artificial Intelligence, SAT and AP test preparation, and various soft skills courses. It is also one of the pioneering platforms leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize assignment, assessment, progress tracking, and personalized learning experiences. This AI-driven approach allows teachers to seamlessly access free digital learning materials, assign coursework, automate grading, and monitor student performance, saving valuable time and enhancing efficiency. The platform provides personalized learning experiences for students, identifying strengths and weaknesses to tailor study plans accordingly. This represents a significant step forward in improving education quality and ensuring equal access to knowledge for all learners, regardless of their background or circumstances.
In Vietnam, Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV) is a nonprofit educational program implemented by The Vietnam Foundation (VNF). In addition to localizing and translating courses in Mathematics, Programming, and Statistics to suit Vietnamese students’ needs better, KAV conducts teacher training sessions to help educators effectively integrate technology into their teaching. Over 25,000 teachers from more than 5,300 schools nationwide have been trained to use Khan Academy efficiently in their classrooms.

Vietnam’s rise to second place in the global Khan Academy user rankings is a significant milestone, underscoring the country’s rapid embrace of digital education. This achievement results from close collaboration between Khan Academy Vietnam, local Departments of Education and Training, and schools across various regions, all working together to promote technology adoption in teaching. By equipping teachers and students with modern learning tools, Vietnam is paving the way for a more effective and inclusive education system.
“Our greatest aspiration is for every Vietnamese student to have a Khan Academy account, enabling them to learn Mathematics and other subjects at the highest quality and completely free. This vision is becoming a reality thanks to Vietnam’s expanding digital infrastructure, which creates favourable conditions for online education,” said Pham Duc Trung Kien, Founder of VNF.
The rapid growth of Khan Academy in Vietnam is a testament to the proactive adoption of technology by policymakers, educators, and students and a reflection of the country’s significant progress in its digital education strategy. As the government, educational institutions, and communities continue to drive technological advancements, Vietnam is emerging as a pioneer in digital education, paving the way to more equitable and effective learning opportunities for future generations.
