In terms of economic cooperation, Vietnam is currently the Republic of Korea's largest economic partner in Southeast Asia and its third-largest trading partner. Meanwhile, the Republic of Korea remains Vietnam's largest foreign investor, the second-largest development and tourism cooperation partner, and the third-largest trade and labor partner.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu noted that the connection between the two countries is not only reflected in economic, trade, and investment figures but is also deeply present in social life. Hundreds of thousands of multicultural Vietnamese-Korean families, along with the Vietnamese community in the Republic of Korea and the Korean community in Vietnam, are becoming “bridges of friendship” that enhance the connection between the peoples of the two countries.

Looking towards the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea in 2027, the Deputy Minister noted that the relationship between the two countries is facing new and broader cooperation opportunities.

Building on 800 years of people-to-people exchanges and over three decades of cooperation, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu expressed confidence that, with the political determination of leaders and the active support of the peoples of both countries, the Vietnam - Republic of Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to achieve new accomplishments, contributing positively to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.

At the ceremony, Designated Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam Lee Mi Yeon expressed gratitude to Standing Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu and other delegates for attending and celebrating the 81st National Day of the Republic of Korea.

Ambassador Lee Mi Yeon emphasized that in 2022, Vietnam and the Republic of Korea established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the highest level of cooperation between the two countries. According to the Ambassador, establishing relations at the highest level is not the final destination but the foundation for the two countries to continue expanding and deepening their bilateral relations, commensurate with the stature of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework.

Ambassador Lee Mi Yeon recalled the state visit to the Republic of Korea by General Secretary and President To Lam in August 2025, the first state visit by a foreign head of state to the Republic of Korea after President Lee Jae Myung took office.

Referring to people-to-people exchanges, Ambassador Lee Mi Yeon affirmed that “the most precious aspect of Korea-Vietnam relations is the human-to-human connection”. According to the Ambassador, people-to-people exchanges between the two countries last year reached about 5 million visits; currently, there are approximately 350,000 Vietnamese living in the Republic of Korea and about 200,000 Koreans residing in Vietnam.
