On September 30, a high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the situation of Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar took place at the UN headquarters in New York.
In her opening remarks, Annalena Baerbok, President of the 80th UN General Assembly, emphasized the urgency of finding a peaceful and sustainable solution to the ongoing humanitarian crisis and conflict in Myanmar.
ASEAN Chair's Special Envoy on Myanmar Othman Hashim highlighted ASEAN's central role in promoting dialogue among stakeholders, calling for adherence to and implementation of ASEAN's Five-Point Consensus to end violence and pave the way for peace in Myanmar.
UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Myanmar Julie Bishop underscored the necessity of a comprehensive political solution, while highlighting the severe humanitarian situation faced by Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar.

Speaking at the conference, Diplomatic Minister Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Head of Vietnam's Permanent Mission to the UN, expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence, natural disaster aftermath, and humanitarian difficulties in Myanmar over the years. He called on all parties to exercise restraint, end violence, and move towards a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire.
Regarding the situation in Rakhine State, the Vietnamese representative emphasized the need to address the root causes of the conflict, ensure the safe, voluntary, and sustainable repatriation of people, and maintain humanitarian support for vulnerable groups.
Nguyen Hoang Nguyen affirmed that any solution to the crisis in Myanmar must ensure respect for the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and self-determination of its people. He stressed the necessity of effectively implementing ASEAN's Five-Point Consensus, appreciated Malaysia's role as ASEAN Chair and the ASEAN Chair's Special Envoy on Myanmar in promoting consultations and dialogue, and called for enhanced coordination between ASEAN and the United Nations.
Vietnam once again affirmed its commitment to contributing positively to peace and stability in Southeast Asia, including joint efforts to build trust and promote dialogue among stakeholders in Myanmar.
