The meeting aimed to promote the implementation of cooperation directions agreed upon by the foreign ministers of the two countries on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York (USA) in September.
During the meeting, Minister Tone Kajzer expressed his delight at the results of the talks with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung in New York.
Praising the visit and working session of Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang, the Slovenian Minister emphasized the importance of concretizing agreements into practical cooperation programs. Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang congratulated Minister Tone Kajzer on his new position and also congratulated Slovenia on completing its term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. The Ambassador emphasized that after more than 30 years of diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Slovenia still have much potential and room for cooperation to elevate bilateral relations to new heights, expanding cooperation in common priority areas.

Both sides agreed to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation, focusing on areas such as science and technology, artificial intelligence, innovation, biotechnology, green energy, nuclear power, and logistics. The Ambassador suggested that Slovenia promptly ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and support the European Union (EU) in lifting the “yellow card” IUU for Vietnam's seafood exports.
The two sides also discussed promoting cooperation between Slovenia's Koper port and Vietnamese seaports, strengthening connections between businesses and localities of the two countries.
Notably, the two diplomats exchanged views on the prospects of labor cooperation and vocational training, especially in healthcare, nursing, and elderly care. Minister Kajzer expressed interest in the model of human resource training cooperation that Vietnam has implemented with some European countries like Germany and Austria, and agreed to explore the possibility of implementing similar programs in Slovenia.
Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination at multilateral forums, uphold international law, multilateralism, and the role of the United Nations; promote ASEAN-EU cooperation; and exchange views on maritime and ocean issues, and freedom of navigation based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
