The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2026, marking 55 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Chile (1971-2026). Chile was the first South American country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam and the first Latin American country to sign a free trade agreement with Vietnam.
Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong congratulated the successful outcomes of Minister Pérez Mackenna's official visit to Vietnam in August 2026 and affirmed that the Embassy would actively coordinate to follow up on those results.
With complementary economic structures and both being members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), both sides agreed there is ample room to expand trade and investment. In 2025, bilateral trade reached over 2.1 billion USD, a 39% increase, making Chile Vietnam's third-largest trading partner in Latin America.
