Vietnam-Bulgaria expand cooperation in medical and pharmaceutical training and research
WVR - From July 20-25, in order to promote cooperation in the fields of training, scientific research, and healthcare between Vietnam and Bulgaria, the Vietnamese Embassy in Bulgaria coordinated with Hanoi Medical University to organize a working program in Bulgaria.

The delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, held meetings with leading universities, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies in Bulgaria, opening up many practical cooperation opportunities. This contributes to strengthening the connection among partners of the two countries and implementing cooperation content within the framework of the Vietnam-Bulgaria Strategic Partnership.
Within the framework of the working program, Hanoi Medical University and Sofia Medical University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a long-term cooperation framework in training, scientific research, and academic exchange between the two leading medical training institutions of Vietnam and Bulgaria. The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, and Prof. Boycho Landjov, Rector of Sofia Medical University.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Bulgaria Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet emphasized that education and training have always been among the most successful areas of cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria over the past decades.
Many generations of Vietnamese students have studied in Bulgaria, including doctors, scientists, medical experts, and management officials, who have made significant contributions to the development of Vietnam's healthcare sector upon returning home. They have also become bridges fostering the friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
The Ambassador affirmed that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the exchange of lecturers and students, research cooperation, and experience sharing between the two universities, thereby enhancing cooperation between Vietnam and Bulgaria in the fields of education, science, technology, and healthcare.
According to the agreement, the two universities will promote the exchange of lecturers and students; implement joint research projects; coordinate in organizing scientific seminars; and share experiences in innovating training programs and developing high-quality healthcare human resources.
Sofia Medical University expressed its readiness to accept research students from Hanoi Medical University in its areas of strength, while also collaborating to develop and register training and research projects within the framework of European Union programs.

The delegation also worked with the Faculty of Pharmacy, Sofia Medical University. Prof. Georgi Momekov, Head of the Faculty of Pharmacy, introduced the training and research capabilities of the unit, which includes five scientists ranked among the top 2% of the most influential scientists in the world according to Stanford University (USA). Both sides agreed to promote cooperation in training, lecturer and student exchange, joint research, and developing collaborative projects in the field of pharmacy.
During their time in Bulgaria, the delegation visited the Bulgarian Military Hospital and several major hospitals in Sofia to learn about hospital management models, doctor training, technology application in medical examination and treatment, and to discuss potential cooperation in specialized training, clinical research, and expert exchange.

The delegation worked with DANHSON Company, one of Bulgaria's leading pharmaceutical companies, to discuss potential cooperation in research, technology transfer, training, and connecting with Vietnamese pharmaceutical companies. Mr. Stefan Bojinov, a board member of DANHSON Company, expressed readiness to consider granting scholarships for Vietnamese students to study pharmacy in Bulgaria.
The working trip achieved many practical results, contributing to expanding cooperation between educational institutions, hospitals, and enterprises of the two countries in training, scientific research, technology transfer, and developing high-quality healthcare human resources.
At the same time, the program continues to strengthen connections between partners of Vietnam and Bulgaria, effectively implementing cooperation content within the framework of the Vietnam-Bulgaria Strategic Partnership, especially in the fields of education, science and technology, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.
