Units 1 and 2 of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project actively complete installation for national energy security

LILAMA 10 Joint Stock Company (a member of Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation - LILAMA) has successfully coordinated with the investor and related units to conduct a no-load test of Unit 1 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion at 100% capacity, and successfully tested overspeed at 160%, meeting all technical requirements.
The project, with a capacity of 480 MW comprising 2 units, supplies approximately 500 million kWh of electricity annually to the national grid, contributing to enhancing peak capacity exploitation, and increasing the safety, stability, and operational efficiency of the power system. At the site, LILAMA 10 is responsible for installing all pressure pipelines, hydromechanical equipment, and electromechanical equipment of the plant.

Currently, Unit 1 of the plant has been 98% installed by LILAMA 10. Major components such as the water intake gate, downstream outlet tunnel, unit, 500kV GIS station, and transformer testing are basically completed. It is expected that on August 18, the transformer will be energized, ensuring that Unit 1 officially connects to the grid on August 19, ahead of schedule by more than a month.
From the leadership of Project Management Board 1, chief commanders of contractors, safety officers, to the testing team, all share a spirit of urgency, precision, safety, and determination to bring the project to completion on schedule. The goal of generating electricity from Unit 1 on August 19 is not only a technical milestone but also a symbol of unity, overcoming challenges, and dedication to the development of national energy.
In addition to Unit 1, Unit 2 of the plant has reached 30% completion; ongoing works include assembling the rotor, installing turbine equipment, generator equipment, and auxiliary systems...

On August 16, LILAMA 10 successfully installed the runner for Unit 2 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion. This is one of the significant milestones, marking a new step in the equipment installation process of the project.
The runner is installed at the center of the turbine chamber, between the guide vane system and the draft tube, connected to the rotating shaft to drive the generator. The runner weighs 110 tons, is a super-heavy piece of equipment imported from abroad. Completing the installation of the runner is a prerequisite for proceeding with the installation of other critical equipment, such as the turbine cover, turbine shaft, guide vane ring, and turbine guide...
Unit 2 is expected to generate electricity by mid-December 2025.
To achieve this result, LILAMA 10 mobilized about 500 engineers and workers along with modern equipment and machinery, working in three continuous shifts. The management team organized production to ensure safety and quality, while also arranging on-site meals and rest, and timely rewards to encourage competitive spirit.
In just a few days, Unit 1 of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion project will officially generate electricity, marking an important milestone in the construction of this national key project, aiming to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
When the first electricity from Unit 1 integrates into the national grid on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, it will be a testament to the will and capability of today's generations in the electricity sector – those who continue the tradition, contributing to ensuring energy security and supporting the sustainable development of the country.
This is not only the result of overcoming all difficulties but also a testament to the spirit of “swift and decisive victory”, determined to complete the mission for national energy security.
