The loving charity meals of Vietnamese women in Belgium

WVR - Amidst the cold winter days in Brussels, Vietnamese women in Belgium are busy preparing a charity meal for their homeland.

On November 30, in response to the call from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnamese Women's Association in Belgium, in collaboration with Bubble restaurant, organized a charity meal to raise funds for those in Vietnam severely affected by floods.

Although it was a small community event in Europe, it was filled with affection, connection, and the spirit of sharing among expatriates.

Approximately 120 guests registered to attend, including many Vietnamese-Belgian families and Belgian friends who love Vietnam. One special guest was Mr. Nicolas Dubois, over 70 years old, a Belgian with a deep affection for Vietnam.

He shared that beautiful memories of a visit to Vietnam and friendships with Vietnamese people prompted him and his wife to join and contribute willingly: “Everyone coming together is truly meaningful”.

The kitchen of Bubble restaurant became a gathering place for meticulous hands: some made banh bot loc (rice cake), others stir-fried noodles, tended to the beef stew, and arranged dishes. Each dish carried the rich flavours of home, but more importantly, the heartfelt dedication in every preparation step, with the hope that the funds raised would reach those in need.

Here, Pham My Anh, President of the Vietnamese Women's Association in Belgium, updated on the natural disasters in Vietnam: Since the beginning of the year, rains, floods, storms, and landslides have caused severe damage, with over 337,000 houses damaged or unroofed; hundreds of thousands of hectares of crops washed away or submerged.

Minh Lien, Vice President of the Association, emotionally recounted the cries for help from remote areas: “Some children have no clothes for school, many families have lost everything… This motivates us to join hands with the spirit of mutual support”.

Besides cooking, the women also brought homemade cakes and Vietnamese specialties for sale to raise funds. Du Tu Phuong, owner of Bubble restaurant, supported the space and sponsored additional dishes, touching and earning admiration from many.

At the end of the event, the Vietnamese Women's Association in Belgium raised over 7,600 Euros (approximately 230 million VND) to send to Vietnam to support those affected by natural disasters. The charity meal not only brought the taste of Vietnam but also ignited the flame of humanity, connecting love from Europe to the homeland.
