The journey of 'walking in hope' by a blind young man

WVR - There are individuals who enter life without seeing the light, yet they become a beacon for many others. Some journeys begin with deprivation, pain, and unanswered questions, only to be continued with faith, resilience, and an unwavering aspiration. The story "walking in hope" is such a journey.

The story of a blind young man who chose music as his eyes, using melodies to walk and illuminate his own future.

This episode introduces viewers to Do Trung Minh, a congenitally blind individual and the leader of the Hope band. Born prematurely at six and a half months, Trung Minh was not as fortunate as his twin brother to have healthy eyes. His childhood was marked by stumbles, tentative steps, and innocent questions about light – something he has never seen but always yearned to touch.

If he hadn't gone to school, Trung Minh's life might have remained confined within the four walls of his home. A turning point came when he attended Nguyen Dinh Chieu School – where the doors of knowledge opened and where teachers discovered his exceptional musical talent. From tunes picked up from TV and radio, music gradually became his joy, his spiritual refuge, and an indispensable "spiritual meal" in his daily life.

Trung Minh's journey with music has never been easy. Unable to read music sheets, he learned by memory. Unable to see the keys, he felt them with his hands. Without light to guide him, he used his ears to navigate the world around him.

For Trung Minh, music is not just sound; it is a flow of highs and lows, a gentle stream or a rushing river – a place where he can be himself, free and soaring in his genuine aspirations.

Learning to play instruments like the piano and drums required him to exert much more effort than others, from self-studying materials to practicing in solitude. Physical limitations, learning conditions, and even self-doubt were significant barriers, but music helped Minh overcome them and continue with steadfast belief.

From this passion, Trung Minh and his companions formed the Hope band – a name that carries the wish for a brighter future, not just for themselves but for all who need motivation to move forward. Performances on stage, on Trang Tien pedestrian street, or in everyday spaces have brought Minh's music closer to the public, spreading positive energy and faith in life.

In the program, Trung Minh surprised the audience by taking on the challenge of singing on demand, from familiar songs to those with high ranges and difficult rhythms. Notably, the challenge of performing a Korean song became a highlight, as Minh tackled a new language he had only been exposed to for over a year, relying on memory and auditory perception. Without needing to see the lyrics or music sheet, Minh sang with intense focus and raw emotion, captivating the audience with his spirit of daring to try and surpass his own limits.

Beyond performances, Trung Minh harbors long-term plans with music: composing his own songs, conquering larger stages, and continuing to inspire positive living in the community. For him, living with passion is a blessing; pursuing it with effort and the support of those around him is even more precious.

This week's Love Station (Tram yeu thuong) not only tells the story of a blind young man who loves music but also conveys a profound message: “Hope is not a distant thing, but the persistent steps taken every day, daring to face challenges and turning imperfections into strength. When people do not give up, light will always find a way to appear.”

The program is produced with the support of THACO – Truong Hai Group Corporation, reaffirming its mission of spreading humanitarian values, accompanying journeys that rise above fate, and igniting faith in a better future.
