The visit will continue the active exchanges and delegation visits between the leaders of the two countries in recent times.
Vietnam and Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992. The two nations maintain a strong relationship, enhancing high-level delegation exchanges.
During the state visit to Republic of Korea by General Secretary To Lam (August 10-13, 2025), both sides adopted a Joint Statement to deepen the Vietnam Republic of Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Both sides agreed to continue effective and timely implementation of the Action Program to advance the Vietnam-Republic of Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Republic of Korea is Vietnam's number one investor; the second-largest source of tourists; second-largest provider of ODA; third-largest trade partner; and third-largest labor market for Vietnam.
In terms of trade, Republic of Korea is Vietnam's third-largest trade partner (after China and the United States), the third-largest export market, and the second-largest import market for Vietnam.
As of October 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached 73.2 billion USD, an 8.1% increase compared to the same period in 2024; Vietnam exported 23.8 billion USD (up 12%), and imported 49.4 billion USD (up 6.3%).
Regarding investment, as of October 2025, Republic of Korea remains the largest investor in Vietnam with 10,329 projects, totaling 94.3 billion USD in registered capital, accounting for over 23% of total FDI projects and 18% of total registered FDI capital.
Korean investments focus on key sectors such as processing-manufacturing industries, high technology, electronics, automobiles and auto parts, construction, and real estate.
In development cooperation, Vietnam continues to be Republic of Korea's top priority partner for ODA funding through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) under the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM).
Scientific and technological cooperation has been identified as a new pillar in bilateral relations. Both sides are actively collaborating to continue the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) project phase 2. Major South Korean high-tech corporations are also investing in the National Innovation Center (NIC).
The two countries currently have about 100 cooperative and twinning relationships between localities. There are approximately 350,000 Vietnamese people in South Korea.
The number of Vietnamese students studying in Republic of Korea has rapidly increased in recent years, now reaching about 43,000, primarily for Korean language studies and undergraduate programs.
