At the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man, Czech Senate President Milos Vystrcil will pay an official visit to Vietnam from November 18 to 22.

Vietnam and the Czech Republic established diplomatic relations on February 2, 1950. The two countries elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2025.

Trade between the two nations has seen growth in recent years but remains modest compared to its potential. Vietnam exports goods such as coffee, pepper, fresh and dried fruits, peanuts, tea, rice, rubber, seafood, footwear, textiles, handicrafts, and computer components to the Czech Republic. In return, Vietnam imports electronics, machinery, chemicals, garments, textile fibers, leather goods, equipment, milk and dairy products, pharmaceuticals, mechanical products, plastics, and glass products from the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic was one of the first EU member states to ratify the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

In 1998, the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic and Trade Cooperation between the two countries was established. After the Czech Republic joined the EU, a new Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation was formed based on the Economic Cooperation Agreement signed in 2006.

Regarding investment, the Czech Republic has 41 FDI projects in Vietnam with a total capital of 92 million USD, ranking 50th out of 147. These investments mainly focus on processing, manufacturing, and mining. The Czech Republic's investment strengths include energy, locomotives, buses, trams, agricultural machinery, and irrigation equipment. Currently, the Czech Republic has initiated a joint venture project to manufacture automobiles with SKODA Auto Group and Thanh Cong Group in Quang Ninh, valued at 450 million USD, set to commence operations in April 2025.

In education and training cooperation, from 1999 to 2014, the Czech government awarded several scholarships to Vietnamese students and researchers to study in the Czech Republic (4-5 scholarships per year). The two sides have signed a new Cooperation Agreement on Education for the new phase.

In defense and security cooperation, Czech defense enterprises participated in the international defense exhibition in Hanoi in December 2024.

The Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic currently numbers nearly 100,000. The Czech Government generally facilitates legal residence and business activities for the Vietnamese community. On July 3, 2013, the Czech government decided to include a representative of Czech citizens of Vietnamese origin in the Council for Ethnic Minorities, thereby recognizing the Vietnamese-Czech as the 14th ethnic minority in the Czech Republic.
