Request for the United States to fully assess Vietnam's legislative and enforcement efforts: Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang
WVR - On July 25, in response to a reporter's question regarding Vietnam's reaction to the United States Trade Representative (USTR) imposing a new 12.5% tariff on goods from all "investigated" economies under Section 301, the Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pham Thu Hang, stated clearly.

“The USTR's decision does not fully reflect the reality and Vietnam's efforts in preventing, mitigating, and eliminating forced labor, including the ban on importing products made with forced labor.
Vietnam strictly prohibits all forms of forced labor, adhering rigorously to the regulations of the International Labour Organization (ILO), international treaties, and free trade agreements to which Vietnam is a party. On July 22, 2026, the Government issued Decree No. 292/2026/ND-CP, which prohibits the import of goods that are wholly or partly mined, produced, or manufactured through forced labor.
Vietnam will continue to engage and work with the United States in a spirit of constructive cooperation, requesting the United States to fully assess the measures Vietnam has implemented to adjust the tariffs applied to Vietnamese goods in line with reality and Vietnam's legislative and enforcement efforts.”
