On May 30, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang responded to questions regarding Vietnam's reaction to the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announcement on May 29 about initiating an investigation under Section 301 of the U.S. Trade Act of 1974 concerning certain issues related to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in Vietnam.
Specifically, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: Vietnam's stance, efforts, and achievements in the field of intellectual property rights protection and enforcement have been clearly outlined in statements on May 1 and May 14. Strengthening the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights is a consistent policy of Vietnam aimed at building a transparent and healthy investment and business environment, promoting innovation, and fully implementing international commitments.
The USTR's initiation of an investigation under Section 301 is a procedure conducted in accordance with U.S. law. Related issues will continue to be reviewed based on exchanges and consultations between the two parties during the investigation process.
"Recently, both sides have maintained close exchanges on this issue. The U.S. has positively acknowledged Vietnam's policies and measures. We are ready to continue consultations, share information, and clarify current and future policies, regulations, and measures. At the same time, we request the U.S. to objectively and fairly evaluate Vietnam's substantial efforts and achievements, in a spirit of cooperation and constructiveness, in line with the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States, for the benefit of the people and businesses of both countries", the Spokesperson emphasised.
