With strong policy support and a growing focus on sustainable development, forest tourism is opening a new chapter, adding fresh depth and vitality to the province’s already dynamic tourism landscape.
At the heart of this natural wealth lies Bai Tu Long National Park, one of Vietnam’s 15 ASEAN Heritage Parks. This pristine sanctuary shelters a remarkable diversity of flora and fauna, including numerous rare and endangered species. Ancient heritage trees such as trai ly, red trâm, and mottled trâm stand as living witnesses to time. Among them, the resilient Bai Tu Long trai ly tree thrives on rocky, nutrient-poor terrain shaped by sun, wind, and salty sea air, yet endures for centuries, an emblem of nature’s quiet strength. These unique ecosystems captivate not only scientists and conservationists, but also travelers seeking authentic encounters with the wild.
Equally compelling is the sacred forest of Yen Tu, a destination where spirituality and nature converge. Visitors come not only on pilgrimage, but also to wander beneath ancient canopies of golden apricot trees, towering cypresses, and endemic species such as kim giao, bell flowers, rhododendrons, and pines. These centuries-old forests are deeply intertwined with the spiritual legacy of Tran Nhan Tong, forming a majestic natural embrace around the Yen Tu relic and landscape complex, now a World Cultural Heritage site of global significance.
Further inland, the Dong Son-Ky Thuong forest unfolds as a vast green sanctuary, carefully protected and rich in biodiversity. Home to thousands of plant and animal species with many listed in national and international conservation records, including the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), this forest offers an ideal setting for immersive eco-adventures.
From Heaven’s Gate, perched over 1,000 meters above sea level, visitors are rewarded with sweeping views of rolling hills, tranquil villages, shimmering bridges, and the distant coastal cityscape. Deeper within the forest, a tapestry of pristine trails, cascading streams, waterfalls, and mist-covered peaks invites exploration. Trekking under the forest canopy, listening to birdsong, crossing streams, and conquering Thien Son peak, the “roof” of the forest, promise unforgettable moments of discovery and renewal.
Beyond these highlights, the eastern forests of Quang Ninh reveal yet another dimension of beauty: majestic border forests, poetic watershed landscapes around Truc Bai Son Lake, and expansive mangrove belts along the coastline. Together, they form ideal settings for eco-resorts, wellness retreats, forest adventures, and slow-travel experiences.
With its cool climate, breathtaking scenery, and rich biodiversity, Quang Ninh’s forests offer more than a journey into nature, they invite visitors to reconnect, rejuvenate, and rediscover harmony with the natural world. As forest tourism continues to take shape, Quang Ninh is poised to become a leading destination for sustainable, high-quality nature experiences in Vietnam and beyond.
