The Moscow Metro is one of the largest and most impressive urban transit networks in the world. It began operations on May 15, 1935, with the first line spanning 11 km and 13 stations. Over the decades, it has expanded significantly, now serving both Moscow and surrounding cities.
As of December 2024, the system spans a total length of 466.62 km with 271 stations, making it the longest metro network in Europe and the eighth longest worldwide. With an average daily ridership of about 7.5 million passengers, it is the busiest metro system in Europe and outside Asia.
The Moscow Metro is renowned for its high frequency, especially during peak hours, with trains running every 80-90 seconds, minimizing wait times for passengers.

A distinctive feature of this system is the architecture and interior decoration of the stations. Many are designed like “underground palaces”, featuring high ceilings, magnificent chandeliers, marble, and exquisite artworks. Stations such as Komsomolskaya, Mayakovskaya, and Kiyevskaya are prime examples, attracting both locals and tourists.
The system integrates modern technologies to enhance passenger experience. The Troika smart card allows flexible payment across various public transport modes. Additionally, the Moscow Metro mobile app offers features like journey planning, card management, and real-time train information.
The Moscow Metro is not only an efficient means of transportation but also a cultural and historical symbol of Russia. With its combination of high operational efficiency, unique architecture, and advanced technology, it continues to play a vital role in Moscow's urban life and is an attractive destination for visitors.

The Prime Minister proposed that Russia sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the two cities to advance subsequent tasks, including commissioning studies and consulting on planning with a centennial vision and comprehensive efficiency, addressing multiple goals, including economic and social development, contributing to achieving an economic growth target of 10%, and creating jobs and livelihoods for the people.
