WVR - On the morning of June 10, at the Presidential Office, General Secretary, President To Lam received Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao on the occasion of the Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam and participation in the third ASEAN Future Forum.

During the meeting, General Secretary, President To Lam extended greetings to the President of Timor-Leste and best wishes to the country and people of Timor-Leste.

The General Secretary, President welcomed Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao's official visit to Vietnam, noting that the visit holds significant importance, creating new momentum and contributing to a more substantial and effective development phase in the good friendship between Vietnam and Timor-Leste.

The General Secretary, President congratulated Timor-Leste on its significant achievements, particularly its official membership in ASEAN, affirming that Vietnam will continue to support Timor-Leste in integrating and participating fully and effectively in ASEAN's mechanisms and cooperation programs.

Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao expressed his honor and gratitude to the General Secretary, President for the reception and congratulated the General Secretary, President on being entrusted by the Party and National Assembly of Vietnam with the new position. He also congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing major political events and consolidating its leadership apparatus, demonstrating the unity, strength, and developmental vision of Vietnam under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The Prime Minister of Timor-Leste emphasized his admiration for Vietnam's rapid and sustainable development process, stating that it serves as a strong inspiration for other countries, including Timor-Leste.

Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao also congratulated and highly appreciated Vietnam for successfully organizing the third ASEAN Future Forum (AFF), providing a platform for policymakers, scholars, businesses, especially the youth, to engage in building a vision for ASEAN in the coming years.

General Secretary, President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always values and wishes to strengthen the multifaceted friendship and cooperation with Timor-Leste, supporting Timor-Leste's independence, peace, prosperity, and regional and international integration.

The General Secretary, President highly appreciated the outcomes of the talks between Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, expressing confidence that the results achieved during the visit will create an important framework and foundation for deepening and making bilateral cooperation more substantive.

Discussing future cooperation directions, General Secretary, President To Lam suggested that the two countries continue to strengthen political relations, enhance delegation exchanges, high-level contacts, and people-to-people exchanges. He also proposed promoting relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction, sharing experiences in party building, governance, and national development.

General Secretary, President To Lam also proposed that both sides boost defense and security cooperation, address traditional and non-traditional security challenges, expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation in potential areas such as oil and gas, mining, agriculture, telecommunications, digital transformation, and human resource training. Additionally, he emphasized enhancing cooperation in education, training, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges based on recently signed cooperation documents, including the Visa Waiver Agreement for ordinary passport holders and the Memorandum of Understanding on educational cooperation.

For his part, Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao thanked and highly appreciated the orientations for bilateral relations outlined by the General Secretary, President. He expressed a desire for both sides to soon organize the first session of the Bilateral Cooperation Committee to specifically discuss plans and areas of cooperation, including considering areas where Vietnam can support Timor-Leste in enhancing economic autonomy, developing private enterprises, improving institutions, and developing infrastructure.

The two leaders agreed to continue close coordination at ASEAN, the United Nations, and regional and international forums, contributing to intra-bloc solidarity, promoting ASEAN's central role, maintaining a peaceful, stable, cooperative, and developmental environment in Southeast Asia, and upholding international law, including the 1982 UNCLOS.
