President Luong Cuong attends Boeing–Vietjet aircraft handover in Seattle

WVR - On the afternoon of September 21 (local time), as part of his bilateral activities, President Luong Cuong and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam attended an aircraft handover ceremony between Boeing and Vietjet at Boeing's factory in Seattle, USA.

The handover ceremony was held solemnly at Boeing's delivery center in Seattle, Washington, USA, attended by President Luong Cuong, high-ranking officials from both countries, and business partners.

Taking place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the normalisation of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US, the event not only marked an important milestone in cooperation between Vietjet and Boeing but also served as a vivid demonstration of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, contributing to the promotion of trade and investment and generating hundreds of thousands of jobs in the US.

Vietjet officially received its first Boeing 737-8 aircraft under an order of 200 planes worth 25 billion USD placed with Boeing. The new aircraft will serve the region’s dynamic market, enhance travel experiences for millions of passengers, and help realise Vietjet’s ambition to expand its global flight network while advancing sustainable regional and international development as a new-generation carrier.

At the same time, Boeing aircraft will realize the ambition to expand the global flight network, fostering sustainable development regionally and internationally for the new-generation airline.

Speaking at the event, Vietjet Chairwoman Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao emphasized: “The first Boeing aircraft from the historic order received by Vietjet is the result of nearly a decade of cooperation between Boeing and Vietjet, opening a new phase of delivering hundreds of aircraft in the future. This event contributes to boosting bilateral trade, symbolizes the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the USA, and the aspiration to conquer the skies, while bringing practical benefits to both economies and creating more jobs for Americans.”

On behalf of Boeing, Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, stated: “On behalf of the Boeing team, we are honoured to accompany Vietjet Air in welcoming the airline's first Boeing aircraft. The 737-8 aircraft will support Vietjet in expanding its flight network, opening new routes serving Southeast Asia, and affirming its strong position as one of the most dynamic new-generation airlines in the region.”

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the USA Nguyen Quoc Dung remarked that this is a historically significant milestone not only for Vietnam's aviation industry but also for Vietnam-USA relations, especially with the presence of President Luong Cuong and high-ranking Vietnamese delegates, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of normalization and two years of becoming Comprehensive Strategic Partners.

The first Boeing 737-8 from a 200-plane order valued at 25 billion USD with Boeing symbolizes the trust, cooperation, and strategic vision that the two countries are building together.

“I believe that the cooperation between Vietjet – a leading private enterprise in Vietnam – and Boeing will open new opportunities to connect Vietnam with the USA and international friends, further promoting trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, especially providing convenience, safety, and friendliness for millions of passengers,” Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung emphasized.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to the USA also noted that today's event reflects the robust development of Vietnam-USA relations in recent times. From pioneering flights, we now witness the delivery of the world's leading advanced aviation products, showcasing the aspirations and capabilities of strong Vietnamese enterprises, contributing to balancing the trade relations between the two countries, and creating more cooperation opportunities for businesses and workers in both countries and globally.

In the context of the increasingly sustainable development of Vietnam-USA relations, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung believes this event will be a vivid testament to the sustainable and mutually beneficial cooperation vision between the two countries.

With the partnership of reputable entities like Boeing and Vietjet, Vietnam's aviation industry will continue to soar, developing substantively and effectively, the Ambassador expressed his expectation.
