WVR - On the afternoon of November 25, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, the Ministry organized a fundraising ceremony to support the people of Central and Central Highlands regions in overcoming the severe consequences of recent historic floods.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, along with the Ministry's leadership, observed a minute of silence to honour the victims who lost their lives in the recent floods.

This activity reflects the social responsibility, humanitarian tradition, and practical support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the people in disaster-stricken areas.

Speaking at the ceremony, Member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat, Party Secretary, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung stated that the prolonged heavy rains, with "floods upon floods" and "typhoons upon typhoons", have caused severe damage in the provinces of Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, and other areas.

Despite proactive and urgent measures taken by the authorities to prevent and combat natural disasters, the excessive rainfall, rapid floodwaters, and unusual weather patterns have resulted in extremely severe consequences.

According to preliminary statistics as of November 24, in the four provinces of Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, and Lam Dong, the floods have resulted in 102 people dead or missing; 332 houses collapsed, destroyed, or swept away; nearly 1,000 houses damaged; and over 82,000 hectares of rice and crops destroyed. The total economic loss is estimated at over 13 trillion VND.

In response to this serious situation, following the directives of the Politburo and the Secretariat on overcoming natural disaster consequences, and in response to the call from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung urged all officials, civil servants, and employees in the Ministry to uphold the tradition of "mutual support" and "the good leaves protect the worn-out leaves", actively participating in fundraising to help the affected communities overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.

Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung also acknowledged and appreciated the proactive efforts of the Ministry's Office, the Party Committee - Mass Organization Office, and the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization in advising and organizing social welfare activities recently.

At the fundraising ceremony on October 4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the overseas Vietnamese community, raised 23.9 billion VND. This amount was transferred to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in two phases:

Phase 1 (October 16): 12 billion VND to support the northern provinces affected by Typhoon No. 10 (Bualoi).

Phase 2 (November 24): 11.9 billion VND presented at the opening ceremony of the "Great National Unity – Vietnam Cultural Heritage" Week 2025 to support the Central region heavily affected by storms and floods.

The Foreign Minister requested that the Party committees, heads of the Ministry's subordinate units, and Vietnamese representative missions abroad adhere to the directives in Notice No. 99-TB/TW dated November 21, 2025, by the Politburo and the Secretariat on overcoming flood consequences in the Central region; and continue to mobilize officials, party members, and workers to join forces with the nation in supporting the Central and Central Highlands regions.

At the fundraising ceremony, immediately following the Minister's call, the Ministry's officials, civil servants, and employees actively responded.

On November 25, the Ministry raised over 620 million VND to support the people of Central and Central Highlands in overcoming the flood consequences. This contribution reflects the deep spirit of sharing, social responsibility, and humanitarian tradition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs towards the people heavily affected by natural disasters.
