Investigating and verifying information on a missing Vietnamese citizen in the Nepal disaster

A statement from the Nepal Tourism Board indicates that a Vietnamese citizen is currently missing following the floods and landslides in the northern part of the country, near the border with Tibet (China), on August 26.
The Vietnamese Embassy in India, concurrently accredited to Nepal and Bhutan, is coordinating with the Vietnamese Association in Nepal and the Honorary Consulate of Vietnam in Nepal to investigate and verify the information.
The Nepal National Disaster Management Authority announced on the morning of August 29 that 579 fatalities have been confirmed from the flash flood on August 26. The number of missing persons in Nepal has also risen to 1,924, following the addition of 933 workers from hydropower plant projects to the list.
China's state broadcaster CCTV reported that as of 3 PM on August 28, the country recorded 5 deaths and 558 missing victims.
The flash flood occurred after a mass of ice and rocks from a glacier descended, creating a massive flow of water and mud that swept through villages. The floodwaters rushed down the steep valley at speeds exceeding 160 km/h, carrying gravel, boulders, and large tree trunks, generating flood waves up to 21 meters high.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has identified this as the deadliest disaster in Nepal since the 2015 earthquake.
