Strengthening consular cooperation and citizen protection between Vietnam and Japan in the new phase

Speaking at the meeting, the Vietnamese side emphasized that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and globally between Vietnam and Japan continues to grow robustly, entering a new phase with increasingly substantive and effective cooperation.
People-to-people exchanges between the two countries have been continuously expanding and deepening, with the Vietnamese community in Japan now reaching nearly 700,000 people. In this context, consular work and citizen protection play a crucial role, requiring timely, effective, and close coordination between the relevant agencies of both countries.

The two sides discussed measures to facilitate the entry, residence, study, and work of citizens from both countries; enhancing information sharing and coordination to address arising issues in consular work and citizen protection.
Vietnam and Japan also agreed to continue promoting measures to support, manage, and raise awareness of legal compliance among citizens of both countries, fostering substantive and sustainable people-to-people exchanges that contribute positively to bilateral economic cooperation.

Over nine sessions, the Vietnam-Japan Consular Consultation mechanism has affirmed its role as an effective exchange channel, contributing to enhancing understanding, resolving obstacles, and improving coordination efficiency between the relevant agencies of both countries.
Both sides agreed to continue maintaining and promoting this mechanism, making practical contributions to ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of citizens of both countries, as well as enhancing cooperation in the spirit of “sincerity, affection, trust, substance, effectiveness, and mutual benefit,” contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development.
