Vietnamese, Lao Foreign Ministries exchange experience in external information work

WVR - On August 18, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Press and Information Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, held a meeting with the delegation from the Press Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos, led by Mr. Somkhit Vankham, Director General and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos, as part of their working visit to Vietnam.

During the meeting, Director General of the Press Information Department and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Thu Hang expressed her pleasure in welcoming the delegation from the Press Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos, to exchange experiences. She emphasized that the visit by the Press Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos, is one of the annual activities implemented to concretize the shared vision of the high-level leaders of the two countries and the cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

Somkhit Vankham, Director General of the Press Department and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos, thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam for their warm and thoughtful reception. He expressed confidence that through this visit and working session, the Press Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos, would gain valuable practical experience from the Press Information Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

In a sincere and open atmosphere, both sides reviewed the annual exchange mechanism established since 2004, aiming to further enhance its effectiveness, make good use of the hotline between the two units, and strengthen information about the countries and peoples of both nations as well as the traditional friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos to the public in each country and international friends.

The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on specific areas of external information and propaganda work, state management of foreign press activities, including policy and legal framework development, the issuance of legal documents related to foreign press management, international press conferences, regular press briefings, spokesperson activities, and providing information to the press. They also discussed digital transformation and the use of social media to meet the demands of the new situation.

On this occasion, both units also agreed to enhance coordination and support each other in disseminating information about major foreign affairs activities, joint events, as well as the policies and achievements of each country. They aim to cooperate effectively in external information work, legal document development, and training to improve the professional capacity of staff involved in external information, communication, and journalism in the future.
