In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Dac Thanh noted that nearly 1 million Vietnamese people are living and working in Europe, with about 4,000 Vietnamese restaurants across the continent. These are the "silent ambassadors" contributing to bringing Vietnam's image and culture closer to international friends.
"Mentioning Vietnam is mentioning Pho. We hope that the beauty of Vietnamese cuisine, including Pho, will be widely spread in Europe, and one day, Vietnamese Pho will be recognized as one of the intangible cultural heritages of humanity," Ambassador Nguyen Dac Thanh said.
Mr. Rolf Schulze, Chairman of the German-Vietnamese Association, stated that Pho is now a very popular dish in Germany and around the world, beloved by all diners and a representative dish of Vietnamese cuisine in Germany.
During the event, German partners welcomed and highly appreciated the organization of the Pho promotion event in Berlin as a meaningful activity, especially on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations. It contributes to enhancing cultural and culinary exchanges, particularly in promoting Vietnam's unique dishes to the German public, thereby strengthening the solidarity and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
Prior to the exchange program, the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany actively encouraged businesses and restaurants in Germany to participate in the European Pho Week 2025.
