The 2025 International Culinary Culture Festival, themed “Joining Hands to Support People Overcoming Typhoons and Floods”, organized by the Service Department for Diplomatic Corps in collaboration with units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took place on November 22 and 23 at the Van Phuc Diplomatic Compound, Hanoi.

As a prominent annual event, the festival attracted the attention and participation of numerous embassies, foreign cultural centers, local Departments of External Relations, and many businesses, contributing to promoting cultural and culinary exchanges between Vietnam and the international community.

Indonesia's booth at this year's festival impressed visitors with its vibrant design, rich in traditional colours, and enticing dishes, attracting many guests to explore and experience.

Sharing with The World & Vietnam Report, Jane Runkat, Chargé d'affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam, expressed that the Indonesian Government appreciates the invitation from the Vietnamese Government. Notably, this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Indonesia bilateral relations (December 30, 1955 - December 30, 2025) and the 80th National Day of both Indonesia (August 17, 1945 - August 17, 2025) and Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

Referring to the humanitarian theme of this event, she emphasized that Indonesia's participation in the International Culinary Culture Festival 2025 is not only to introduce its culture and traditional dishes but also to demonstrate solidarity and sharing with the Vietnamese people in areas affected by the recent floods.

“We want to express our empathy and join hands to support the Vietnamese community during this difficult time,” the Chargé d'affaires emphasized.

Discussing Indonesia's booth this year, Jane Runkat introduced familiar traditional dishes from the “archipelago nation” such as bakso (meatballs), sate (grilled skewers), nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice), pastel fried pastries, bakwan jagung (corn fritters), pisang goreng (fried bananas), and bubur sumsum (rice flour pudding). These are beloved dishes in Indonesia, showcasing the culinary essence of this Southeast Asian nation.

Additionally, during the opening ceremony, the Indonesian Embassy presented the traditional dance Tari Selendang, aiming to convey the warm values of Indonesian culture.

The Chargé d'affaires of the Indonesian Embassy in Vietnam hopes that bringing the archipelago's signature dishes to the public in Hanoi will serve as a bridge, not only fostering Vietnam-Indonesia friendship but also expanding the connection between the people of the two countries.

“We are delighted to see a large number of visitors. We hope they have memorable experiences with cuisine from various parts of the world and feel the spirit of solidarity and cultural exchange between Indonesia and Vietnam,” the diplomat pointed out.

Jane Runkat also expressed her desire for more Vietnamese and international tourists to choose Indonesia as a destination in the near future.

Besides the goal of promoting the national image, the Indonesian diplomat highly values the significance of the International Culinary Culture Festival – an annual event organized by Vietnam, attracting the participation of numerous diplomatic missions and countries in the region. According to her, this is not only an occasion to introduce the unique cultural and culinary features of different countries but also an important activity in promoting exchanges, enhancing mutual understanding, and strengthening friendship among ASEAN countries.

“We are very close to the booths of other ASEAN countries. This helps promote regional friendship and strengthen ASEAN identity,” the Chargé d'affaires expressed.
