Hue City actively promotes cooperation with Austrian partners

WVR - Within the framework of a working program in the Republic of Austria, on June 10 and 11, a delegation from Hue City, led by Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City, conducted courtesy visits and meetings in Lower Austria and the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Austria.

The visit to the Republic of Austria is a significant diplomatic activity aimed at concretizing the cooperation agreements established between Hue City and Austrian partners. It contributes to strengthening friendly relations and expanding international cooperation in education, culture, tourism, heritage conservation and promotion, sustainable development, as well as exchanging and learning experiences in managing and exploiting world heritage sites.

Additionally, the visit lays a favorable foundation to promote and expand cooperative relations between Hue City and Lower Austria in the future.

During the meeting with Mr. Karl Wilfing, President of the Lower Austrian Parliament, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City introduced the potentials, advantages, and development orientations of Hue City after becoming the sixth centrally governed city in Vietnam.

Hue City proposed that Lower Austria consider promoting the signing of an official cooperation agreement between Hue City and the state to facilitate investment cooperation in tourism, education and training, healthcare, information technology, green urban development, smart cities, heritage conservation, high-tech agriculture, and sustainable development.

Both sides also discussed the possibility of organizing tourism promotion activities and cultural and artistic exchanges between Hue and Krems during festivals in Hue and Lower Austria, contributing to enhancing understanding and connections between the people of the two localities.

The delegation also visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Austria. They were received by Vu Le Thai Hoang, the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Austria, along with embassy staff.

During the meeting, the delegation shared the outcomes of activities with Austrian partners and requested the embassy's continued support in connecting and promoting cooperation programs between Hue City and Lower Austria, major international organizations headquartered in Vienna (Austria), and Austrian educational institutions and businesses in the future.

Subsequently, the delegation visited and worked with the Krems City Government (in Lower Austria). Attending from the host side were Elisabeth Kreuzhuber, Deputy Mayor of Krems, and representatives of the city's specialized agencies.

Both sides discussed cooperation directions in heritage conservation and promotion, sustainable tourism development, cultural exchange, tourism workforce training, and sharing urban management experiences linked to heritage conservation.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City Nguyen Khac Toan emphasized that both the ancient capital of Hue and the historic city of Krems are cities with rich histories and unique cultures, possessing many valuable heritage assets. This is an important foundation for the two localities to enhance cooperation, share experiences, and leverage their unique strengths towards sustainable development goals.

During a visit to the training facilities and a meeting with the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, a renowned high-quality university in Austria and Europe, the delegation was welcomed by Dr. Heinz Boyer, Chairman and Founder of the University; Dr. Udo Brändle, Executive Director, along with members of the university council.

Both parties discussed content to concretize the Letter of Intent for cooperation signed on April 3, 2026, between the Hue City Department of Foreign Affairs, Krems City, and the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, aiming to lay the groundwork for an official cooperation program between the Lower Austrian government and Hue City.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City Nguyen Khac Toan highly appreciated the university's capabilities in training, scientific research, and international cooperation, and proposed enhancing student and faculty exchange programs, improving the capacity of staff and lecturers, and developing joint training and research programs.

Notably, both sides agreed to continue discussions to implement the initiative of organizing short-term training courses in Hue to enhance management and tourism development capacity for local officials.

The proactive, positive, and effective local diplomatic activities of Hue City contribute to strengthening the multifaceted, substantive cooperation and friendly relations between Vietnam and Austria.
