Amid the joyful atmosphere of welcoming the New Year 2026, this event serves as a special kickoff right after the two cities signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in health, education, and science and technology during General Secretary To Lam's official visit to the United Kingdom in October 2025.
The two-day event featured numerous exciting activities:

Day 2: The cultural festival opened free to the public, featuring the Liverpool 360° VR Experience – a virtual reality exploration of Liverpool; Mini Anfield Stadium Activation – a football experience inspired by Anfield Stadium; Twin Cities Digital Gallery – a digital exhibition about the two cities; music, interactive activities, and exclusive souvenirs.
During the visit, the Liverpool cultural delegation, led by Liverpool City Councilor for Physical & Mental Health and Culture, Harry Doyle, had a working session with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to strengthen future cooperation.
There was also a separate working program, organized by the British Council, with cultural partners in Vietnam, including state cultural agencies and independent art organizations.
Harry Doyle expressed: “We are delighted to be in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the new partnership between our two great cities. We are proud to partner with Ho Chi Minh City in health, mental well-being, and culture, and we look forward to collaborating to bring shared benefits to the people of both communities.

Despite being thousands of miles apart, we are united by common aspirations: Celebrating unique cultural traits, enhancing residents' health, and reducing inequality. Together, we can demonstrate that culture strengthens health and spirit, while building a sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for our people.”
Alexandra Smith, British Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized, “This cultural festival reflects our commitment to a long-term partnership between the UK and Vietnam, particularly in meaningful cultural exchanges.
This time, we are not only showcasing Liverpool's world-renowned music and art but also introducing works by emerging artists with a vision to inspire creative collaboration from the community and youth between our two cities.”
Over the years, the city of Liverpool has built numerous strong relationships with other countries. Ho Chi Minh City is Liverpool's 11th sister city.
