The tournament is organised by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in collaboration with the Overseas Vietnamese Golf Association (OVGA). The organisers stated that this year's event attracted over 120 delegates and golfers from Vietnam, as well as those living, studying, and working in 10 countries and territories, showcasing the expanding reach of this community-focused sports event.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, emphasised that over the years, the golf tournament has evolved beyond a mere sports activity. It has become a strong bridge connecting the overseas Vietnamese community with their homeland, reinforcing national solidarity and evoking a deep connection to their roots.

With a spirit of exchange and friendship, the 8th tournament continues to be a gathering point for expatriate golfers who love sports and remain connected to their homeland. Amidst Ho Chi Minh City's dynamic development and integration, the presence of numerous expatriate golfers at the beginning of 2026 once again affirms the close ties between the overseas Vietnamese community and the nation's overall progress.

A 10-Year Journey of Connection: From the First Tournament to Now

According to the organisers and official sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first Global Vietnamese Expatriate Golf Tournament was held in 2015 in Hanoi, coinciding with several major national events. From its inception, the tournament was envisioned not only as a sports event but also as a people-to-people diplomatic initiative, bringing together intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and the overseas Vietnamese community through the medium of sports.

Building on that success, the second tournament was held in subsequent years with expanded scale, increased participation, and rotating venues across major localities. Thus, the golf tournament gradually became an annual event associated with overseas Vietnamese affairs, warmly received and continuously maintained by the expatriate community to this day.

Over eight tournaments, the event has consistently elevated in scale, organisational quality, and side activities, becoming a soft connection platform between expatriates and domestic agencies, spreading the message of an open, united, and culturally rich Vietnam.

Schedule and Side Activities

- According to the plan, this year's tournament will take place over three days:

- January 4: Competition at Tan Son Nhat Golf Course (Ho Chi Minh City)

- January 5: Competition at Royal Long An Golf & Country Club

- January 6: Competition at Vinpearl Golf Leman Cu Chi

Immediately after the third day of competition, the organisers will award prizes to individuals with outstanding achievements in a warm setting, allowing golfers to reflect on their 10-year journey with OVGA, share stories of their connection to their homeland, and continue expanding the network of the overseas Vietnamese community in the future.

With this significance, the 8th Global Vietnamese Expatriate Golf Tournament is not just an early-year sports event but also a vibrant people-to-people diplomatic activity, deepening the relationship between expatriates and the nation in a new era.
