Foreign affairs and diplomacy with the identity of "Vietnamese bamboo" have obtained many outstanding achievements. Foreign affairs activities, especially high-level ones, have been held with 22 foreign visits by Vietnamese key leaders and 28 high-level delegations from countries visiting Vietnam along with hundreds of meetings on the occasion of multilateral conferences, contributing to the firmer consolidation of an open foreign policy which is favorable for maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; mobilize external resources to serve socio-economic development and enhance the country's position.

The 32nd Diplomatic Conference, under the theme "Promoting the pioneering role, building a comprehensive, modern, strong diplomacy, successfully implementing the resolution of the 13th Party Congress" was a great success. Party and State leaders have given great attention and delivered directions at the Conference. In particular, at the Opening Session, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a speech giving comprehensive and profound guidance and orientation to all fields of the Diplomatic sector and affirmed that the Diplomatic and foreign affairs sectors have "obtained many important and historically significant results and achievements, becoming an impressive bright spot among all the country's overall results and achievements."

Vietnam - China relations were elevated with the State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong. The two sides agreed to build a Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future with strategic significance, making efforts for the happiness of the two countries' people, for the cause of peace and progress of humanity.

Vietnam and Japan upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world during President Vo Van Thuong's official visit to Japan from November 27 - 30, 2023, in the context that the two countries have been celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations and bilateral relations are considered by both sides to be at the best moment in history.

Vietnam - US relations reach a new milestone with the elevating relation into a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development during President Joe Biden's state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. This is the first time a US President has a visit to Vietnam at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

With the motto "taking people, localities and businesses as the center of service", economic diplomacy has achieved many important achievements, making practical contributions to macroeconomic stability and promoting socio-economic development Vietnam is in the group of 11 leading economies in Asia, the group of 40 leading economies in the world. Import-export reached nearly 700 billion USD, trade surplus 26 billion USD; FDI capital reached a high level record with 36.6 billion USD.

Vietnam's multilateral diplomacy has achieved many successes with Vietnam being trusted and elected to various important positions, holding responsibilities at multilateral institutions such as the United Nations and UNESCO, promoting its role in ASEAN and related mechanisms. Vietnam has been increasingly contributing actively and responsibly to solving global issues such as combating climate change and cutting emissions; participating in peacekeeping forces. For the first time, Vietnam sent teams to participate in humanitarian rescue in Turkey.

Overseas Vietnamese work and citizen protection abroad have achieved many important results. Namely, the “Day for Honouring Vietnamese Language" (September 8) in the Vietnamese community abroad was held for the first time; the world's first Vietnam Town was opened in Udon Thani, Thailand; the Vietnamese community was recognized by the Slovak Government as the 14th ethnic minority for the first time. Citizen protection and community support work have promptly deployed in areas of conflict and natural disasters such as Ukraine, Israel, Turkey or for Vietnamese people who were tricked into the scheme of "high-paying easy jobs" to work in some Southeast Asian countries.

Cultural diplomacy continues to be promoted with the successful organization of Vietnam Day on three continents. Vietnam has successfully campaigned for four UNESCO titles and participated in five key operating mechanisms of UNESCO. The ideological, moral, and style legacy of President Ho Chi Minh continues to be honored around the world. External information and communication work has been held with many innovations and creativity, contributing to promoting cultural values, the image of the country and people of Vietnam to the world.

Relations between Vietnam and the Vatican have witnessed positive progress with the adoption the “Agreement on the Status of the Resident Papal Representative and the Office of the Resident Papal Representative in Vietnam” during the visit to the Vatican by President Vo Van Thuong. For the first time, His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Marek Zalewski as the permanent Vatican Representative in Vietnam. This is the outcome of our State's consistent policy of respecting and ensuring freedom of belief and religion, and creating favorable conditions for activities of religions, including Catholicism.
