Grand reception celebrates Vietnam's National Day and 55 years of Vietnam-Norway relations
WVR - The Vietnamese Embassy in Norway hosted a reception to commemorate the 81st National Day of Vietnam, 55 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Norway, and welcomed Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh, a member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the National Assembly, on his visit to Norway.

On September 25, in Oslo, the Vietnamese Embassy in Norway organized a reception to celebrate the 81st National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1945 - 2026) and the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Norway (1971 - 2026).
The reception was attended by nearly 200 guests representing Norwegian Government and parliamentary bodies, organizations, businesses, diplomatic missions in Oslo, representatives of the Vietnamese community in Norway, and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy.
Notably, this year's reception featured the presence of Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh, a member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the Vietnamese National Assembly, as the guest of honour, along with members of the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation visiting Norway from September 24-27. First Vice President of the Norwegian Parliament Morten Stordalen also attended and spoke at the reception.
In his keynote speech at the reception, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh, a member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the National Assembly, emphasised the significance of Vietnam's National Day – an occasion for every Vietnamese to cherish independence, peace, and a prosperous, happy life; affirming Vietnam's desire to be a reliable friend and partner, contributing to peace, cooperation, and development with other nations.
Since the historic Autumn of 1945, Vietnam has traversed a long journey to become a peaceful, stable, dynamic, and deeply integrated nation. Throughout this journey, Vietnam has always valued friends who have shown empathy and sincere support.
Vice President Nguyen Doan Anh recalled the milestone in 1966 when Norwegian Foreign Minister John Lyng at the United Nations called for a complete cessation of bombing in Vietnam, paving the way for dialogue and the pursuit of peaceful solutions.
Since 1971, when the two countries established diplomatic relations, Vietnam-Norway relations have been nurtured, developed, and transformed into an equal, trustworthy partnership with increasingly substantive cooperation; expanding across state, government, parliamentary channels, and people-to-people exchanges.
Notably, both sides have been establishing numerous cooperative frameworks in long-term meaningful areas such as marine economy, renewable energy, circular economy, climate change response, and sustainable development, with a commitment to transforming these frameworks into concrete results, bringing practical benefits to the people and businesses of both countries.
First Vice President of the Norwegian Parliament Morten Stordalen affirmed that Vietnam is a close partner of Norway in Asia. Over the past five decades, the cooperative relationship between the two countries has evolved from initial development aid to an equal partnership with deeper and more balanced economic cooperation, along with trade and investment in each other's markets.
The year 2026 holds significant importance for the bilateral relations, with recent agreements on Green Partnership and trade standing out as notable examples. Morten Stordalen noted that Norwegian businesses are keen to increase investment in Vietnam in areas such as renewable energy, circular economy, sustainable aquaculture, and green maritime transport, while also looking to expand cooperation into new fields like cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
First Vice President of the Norwegian Parliament Morten Stordalen announced that Norway has decided to sign the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime, also known as the “Hanoi Convention”.

Earlier, in her welcoming speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Norway Le Thi Thu emphasised that National Day is a special occasion for Vietnamese people both at home and abroad to reflect on the past journey and look forward to the future with confidence and hope.
The year 2026 is even more significant as Vietnam and Norway celebrate 55 years of establishing and developing diplomatic relations based on friendship, trust, and mutual respect. Over time, this friendship has been further strengthened through various connections between governments, parliaments, businesses, organizations, and especially the people of both countries.
At the reception, guests enjoyed a variety of unique musical performances from Vietnam and Norway, performed by Vietnamese artists from the Vietnam Cultural Center in France on traditional Vietnamese instruments. The culinary program featuring famous Vietnamese dishes was also highly appreciated by the guests.
*During the visit to Norway from September 24-27, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh, a member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the Vietnamese National Assembly, held talks with First Vice President of the Norwegian Parliament Morten Stordalen; met with Chairman of the EFTA Parliamentary Committee Nikolai Astrup and Head of the Norwegian Parliamentary Delegation to the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Tellef Inge Morland; visited and worked with companies DNV and TOMRA; and met with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Norway.
