The reception was attended by nearly 200 guests, including many government officials, ministries, sectors, localities, and Portuguese businesses cooperating with Vietnam, heads of diplomatic missions, international organizations in Portugal, and a large number of Vietnamese expatriates living, studying, and working in Portugal.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Manh Thang reminisced about the significant historical milestone on September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, marking a new era – the era of independence, freedom, and happiness for the Vietnamese nation.
Ambassador Nguyen Manh Thang emphasised that after 40 years of renovation, Vietnam has achieved significant political, economic, and social accomplishments; it is proactive, responsible, trustworthy, and sincere in international relations, becoming a symbol of peace and friendship worldwide. These are the foundations for Vietnam to confidently advance into a new era, the era of the nation's rise.

Assessing the progress in Vietnam-Portugal relations, Ambassador Nguyen Manh Thang affirmed that recent bilateral visits and contacts between the high-level leaders of the two countries are important milestones, confirming the determination of the high-level leaders of both countries to promote cooperation more deeply, substantively, and effectively.
Notably, the official opening of embassies in each other's capitals by Vietnam and Portugal on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations is a groundbreaking step, reflecting the strategic determination of the high-level leaders of both countries, opening up broader cooperation spaces, especially in fields of long-term importance.
Ambassador Nguyen Manh Thang emphasised that economic, trade-investment, science and technology, culture, education-training cooperation between the two countries has also achieved many positive results and there is still much room for enhancement in the future, especially in the fields of maritime economy, innovation, renewable energy, tourism...
Additionally, local cooperation has also been a highlight in recent times, serving as an important cooperation channel in the bilateral relations. The Vietnamese community in Portugal has successfully integrated into the local society, playing a vibrant bridging role, contributing to strengthening understanding, connection, and friendship between the two countries and their peoples.

At the reception, guests enjoyed several traditional Vietnamese and Portuguese musical performances by Meritorious Artist Dang Thi Thanh Ngoc from the Vietnam Cultural Center in France, using Vietnamese traditional instruments, and visited an exhibition of paintings about Vietnam by artist Daniela Fernandez, who traveled through many regions of Vietnam to find inspiration for her collection depicting the country and its people.
