German Competence Academy - GCA: Realizing dreams with Vietnamese students

According to the assessment of vocational training institutions in Germany, Vietnamese people are hard-working and can absorb work quickly. However, Vietnamese students still have limitations in language, cultural integration skills, and suitable career choices. The rapid development of German language centers in Vietnam only partially meets the learner's needs of studying language and skills, ensuring the requirements of vocational training units.

Under that circumstance, GCA under Hanoi IEC Co., Ltd., the representative office for the Thuringian Economic Development Office LEG (Germany) in Vietnam - with nearly 20 years of experience in teaching German continuously innovate quality, human resources and facilities to become one of the leading German language and culture training centers in Vietnam.

GCA has been chosen by the government and business organizations, and medical institutions in Germany as a reliable partner in implementing vocational training programs for Vietnamese youth to study and work in Germany. Currently, there are about 2000 GCA students in Germany.

Grasping the needs and German policies of attracting human resources, since 2015, GCA has cooperated with Hanoi Medical University and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City to organize language training courses for nursing graduates in Germany to improve practice skills, recognize international diplomas and work at leading general hospitals. The success of nursing training projects has been replicated in many states, creating a premise for hospitals to continue to attract Vietnamese nursing human resources to Germany to work.

In 2016, GCA continued to propose to the Southern Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Thuringia State IHK to implement the "Project to attract Vietnamese human resources through vocational training". The project supports language training and visa procedures for young Vietnamese to attend 3-year-long vocational training at enterprises producing, processing food and providing services. After seven training courses, more than 300 students benefited from the program.

In 2019, GCA was one of two units in Vietnam selected by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam (MOLISA) as a language training facility for the "Project to recruit Vietnamese nurses to study and work in Germany". This is a cooperation program between the MOLISA’s Department of Overseas Labor (DOLAB) and the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ).

From 2019, many German healthcare facilities such as Parisat organization in Thuringia state (the unit that connects foreign workers with hospitals and nursing homes), Labor recruitment and support organization Medwing, Kulmback Hospital, St. Goerg (Leipzig), hospitals in Thuringia have chosen GCA as a high-quality language training partner for Vietnamese nursing candidates wishing to come to Germany to study and improve their professional qualifications.

Students of Hanoi Medical University receive a diploma from the nursing program after completing the degree conversion process in Germany.

The highlight of GCA's training program is that students not only have access to a modern language training program according to the European standard framework, develop listening and speaking skills, but also are guided in cultural integration skills, provided with specialized language courses. All of this helps students to clearly define their career capacity to best complete the training program, meeting the needs of employment agencies.

Participating in projects to attract human resources at GCA, students will be supported with language training costs, skills courses, visa application preparation as well as support during their studies. This helps students reduce their financial burden in Vietnam, ensuring the benefits of vocational training in Germany.

In the coming years, the German Competence Institute GCA will continue to coordinate with German and Vietnamese organizations and businesses to deploy more high-quality study programs, to become a fulcrum for young Vietnamese people on the path of creating careers in Germany.
