Ensuring electricity supply for socio-economic development of the province
At the working session between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People's Committee of Nghe An Province regarding the adjusted Power Plan VIII, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Pham Hong Phuong stated that in recent years, EVN has ensured the supply of electricity for the socio-economic development and daily needs of the people in Nghe An Province.
During the 2021-2025 period, commercial electricity in the area grew at an average rate of 7.2% per year. Specifically, in 2025, commercial electricity is expected to reach over 5.33 billion kWh, an increase of 4.16% compared to 2024.
In the first four months of this year, the province's commercial electricity reached nearly 1.84 billion kWh, up 16.84% compared to the same period last year. Notably, the industrial-construction sector accounts for nearly 50% of the load structure and grew by 19.5%, reflecting the increasing demand for electricity in industrial production and economic development.
The maximum load capacity (Pmax) in 2025 is expected to reach 1,147 MW, an increase of 3.7% compared to 2024, and is projected to reach approximately 1,230 MW in 2026. According to forecasts, by 2030, the maximum capacity of Nghe An Province could reach around 1,685 MW, with commercial electricity output of about 7.66 billion kWh.

By the end of 2025, the total capacity of power sources in Nghe An will reach 1,056 MW, along with 430 MW imported from Laos. The transmission grid system is being synchronously invested with 6 220kV substations (total capacity of 2,375 MVA) and 33 110kV substations (total capacity of 2,236 MVA).
Additionally, rural electrification is also being prioritized. Notably, as of now, 99.65% of households in the province have regular and safe access to electricity; 100% of communes meet the electricity criteria in the new rural development phase 2021-2025.

Numerous power grid projects implemented
During the 2021-2025 period, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) completed 12 transmission grid projects in Nghe An, including 2 500kV projects and 10 220kV projects. These include key projects such as the 500kV Quang Trach - Quynh Luu transmission line, the 500kV Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa transmission line, the 220kV Nam Cam Substation and connecting lines, the 220kV Tuong Duong - Do Luong transmission line...
In addition, EVNNPT is implementing 9 other important transmission grid projects in the area, notable ones being the 500kV Quynh Luu Substation and connecting lines; the 500kV Vung Ang - Hoa Binh 2 Cut-off Station transmission line; the 500kV transmission line projects connecting the LNG Quynh Lap area; the 220kV Quy Hop Substation and the 220kV Tuong Duong - Quy Hop transmission line...
Notably, the 500kV Quynh Luu Substation and connecting line project commenced on March 28 and is expected to be energized in the fourth quarter of 2026. This is an important project contributing to enhancing transmission capacity, relieving power source capacity in the North Central region, and importing electricity from Laos.
According to the adjusted Power Plan VIII, by 2035, the total power source capacity in Nghe An is expected to reach approximately 7,857 MW (including LNG, hydropower, renewable energy) along with imports from Laos. Therefore, there is a need for continued strong investment in a synchronized transmission grid system to relieve capacity and ensure safe and stable operation.
At the working session, EVN proposed that the People's Committee of Nghe An Province continue to support to ensure the progress of power projects in the area; simultaneously, study mechanisms to attract social resources to participate in investing in the transmission grid.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghe An Province Phung Thanh Vinh affirmed that Nghe An will implement the power source and grid projects in the adjusted Power Plan VIII, and the Implementation Plan of the adjusted Power Plan VIII according to the set schedule. Nghe An is committed to continuing to accompany and make every effort to effectively implement the projects in the adjusted Power Plan VIII.
The provincial leaders of Nghe An hope that in the future, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, EVN, and EVNNPT will continue to pay attention, accompany, and assist the province in implementing the planned power projects, contributing positively to local growth and ensuring national energy security.
Concluding the working session, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long emphasized the Party and State's interest in national power planning and development. The Deputy Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade, along with the power sector, will continue to accompany and closely coordinate with localities to ensure energy security and promote socio-economic development in Nghe An Province.
