During the discussions, delegates focused on assessing geopolitical situations, risks, and opportunities in times of instability, as well as identifying the “levers” shaping the future of the global economy, including technology, energy, critical minerals, and international payment systems.
Many opinions emphasized the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) and service trade in global economic growth. Opinions highlighted the increasing uncertainty and volatility in the world, suggesting that economies need to enhance adaptability, strategic autonomy, and build trustworthy partnerships among like-minded countries. Business community representatives shared trends in supply chain adjustments and expressed their commitment to long-term investment decisions.
Within the forum framework, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang participated in a high-level working breakfast session and spoke at the roundtable on the Future of Trade, Global Supply Chains, and Investment. Speaking at the roundtable, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang noted that global trade, investment, and supply chains are increasingly impacted by geopolitical competition; supply chains are becoming strategic tools in ensuring economic security; AI, technology, and digital transformation are reshaping global trade and investment.
The Deputy Minister emphasised that developing countries with high economic openness face many challenges amid the current global volatility, while affirming Vietnam's support for an open, rules-based multilateral trading system. The process of diversifying supply chains and adjusting global trade rules must ensure inclusivity and bring broad benefits to all countries, especially developing ones.
The Deputy Minister also highlighted Vietnam's recent positive economic outcomes, with GDP growth in the first nine months of 2026 exceeding 9%, total trade turnover nearing $890 billion, and registered FDI exceeding $50 billion, up over 75% compared to the same period last year, reflecting Vietnam's strategic stability role in the global supply chain.
In the new development phase, Vietnam is shifting its FDI attraction focus from quantity to quality, not just stopping at production and assembly but also emphasizing high-quality investment, enhancing domestic value addition, technology transfer, and linking value chains between domestic and FDI sectors. The Deputy Minister also affirmed Vietnam's firm control over goods origin, preventing origin fraud and illegal transshipment.
