Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang meets with UNFPA Representative in Vietnam

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that Vietnam always values the support and contributions of UNFPA in Vietnam over the past 45 years. He welcomed the ongoing finalization of the 2027-2031 Cooperation Program and emphasized that Vietnam values cooperation with international partners to achieve strategic development goals, including becoming a developed country by 2045.

The Deputy Minister stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is undertaking tasks to promote international cooperation on aging populations. He requested UNFPA's support in expertise, international experience, and policy recommendations in areas such as population aging, long-term care, the care economy, the silver economy, and enhancing the role of the elderly. He also shared related research, including discussions on development approaches beyond traditional economic indicators. The Deputy Minister also discussed the potential to promote issues of population aging and the silver economy within appropriate cooperation frameworks, including APEC 2027.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister requested UNFPA's continued support for Vietnam in discussions and negotiations on the International Convention on the Rights of Older Persons.

He affirmed that Vietnam considers this a long-term issue and is ready to play an active, constructive, and responsible role in related multilateral processes.

For his part, Mr. Matt Jackson highly appreciated the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and UNFPA. He affirmed that UNFPA regards Vietnam as an important partner and is ready to continue accompanying, supporting, sharing experiences, and consulting policies with Vietnamese agencies in areas of mutual interest, such as population and development, adapting to population aging, long-term care, the care economy, the silver economy, and enhancing the role of the elderly.

Both sides also discussed efforts to reform the United Nations system to enhance efficiency, reduce overlap, and better utilize resources. They agreed to maintain close coordination to concretize cooperation content in the near future.
