Commemorating ASEAN Day in Western Australia, spreading the spirit of unity and cooperation
WVR - On August 14, in Perth, Australia, the Consulates General of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia jointly organized the ASEAN Day Celebration on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (8/8/1967-8/8/2026).

Attending the ceremony were Ms. Sook Yee Lai, Member of the Western Australia Parliament, representatives of the Western Australia government, state parliamentarians, representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia, as well as representatives from government agencies, consular corps, business community, and ASEAN partners in Western Australia.
Vietnamese Consul General in Perth Pham Hai Anh, along with the entire staff of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Perth, attended the event.
In his speech at the event, the ASEAN representative emphasized the significance of ASEAN Day in affirming the foundational values of the Association, highlighting the spirit of unity, dialogue, cooperation, and consensus, thereby contributing to the promotion of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
In 2026, the Philippines assumes the role of ASEAN Chair with the theme “Together Shaping Our Future”, aiming to promote peace and security, prosperity, and empowerment for the people.
The delegates highly appreciated the strong development of the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership over the past five years and emphasized the potential for cooperation between ASEAN and Western Australia in the fields of trade, investment, education, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.
Immediately following the celebration, the ASEAN-Western Australia Business Dialogue was held to enhance connections between governments, businesses, chambers of commerce, and communities on both sides.

The highlight of the event was the spectacular dance performances from ASEAN countries. The Vietnamese delegation contributed a dance combining traditional and modern elements, performed by the JM Crew, consisting of Vietnamese youth and students.
The active participation and close coordination of the Consulates General of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia in Perth continue to strengthen the ASEAN spirit of unity, enhance the image of the Association, and promote substantive connections and cooperation between ASEAN countries and Western Australia.
