Flag Raising Ceremony celebrating 59 years of ASEAN and 50 years of the TAC Treaty in Romania
WVR - The Flag Raising Ceremony commemorating 59 years since the establishment of ASEAN and 50 years of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) not only strengthens Romania-ASEAN relations but also spreads the message of a youthful, dynamic, culturally rich, and united ASEAN.

On August 7, at the Indonesian Embassy headquarters, the Vietnamese Embassy in Romania, in coordination with the ASEAN Committee in Bucharest (comprising Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam), solemnly organized the Flag Raising Ceremony to commemorate the 59th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The year 2025 also marks the 50th anniversary of the TAC Treaty. This milestone is significant, affirming Vietnam's journey of active contribution to the development, expansion, and enhancement of ASEAN's role in the region and internationally, especially as Romania is promoting its accession to the TAC Treaty this year.
The ceremony was attended by Ms. Ileana Dinculescu, Director of the Middle East - Africa Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, as an honored guest, along with many leaders and representatives from ministries, sectors, businesses, research institutions, schools in Romania, and a large number of representatives from the Diplomatic Corps.

At the event, Philippine Ambassador Noel Servigon, Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Bucharest (ACB), delivered the opening speech on behalf of the Ambassadors, praising the excellent friendship and cooperation between Romania and ASEAN in recent times.
The Ambassador affirmed that Romania is a partner with great potential, acting as a bridge between ASEAN and the European Union, expressing confidence that through regular dialogue, promotion of trade and investment, educational and cultural cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges, the relationship between Romania and ASEAN will continue to grow strongly, bringing practical benefits to both sides and contributing to maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in both regions.

In response, Ms. Ileana Dinculescu also extended warm congratulations to the governments and people of ASEAN countries on this significant occasion, emphasizing the increasingly positive development of relations between Romania and ASEAN in political, economic, and people-to-people exchanges.
Romania views ASEAN as an important partner in the Asia-Pacific region, not only because of its vast market potential but also due to ASEAN's increasingly prominent role in maintaining regional peace, stability, and promoting cooperation. Romania expressed its desire to further deepen practical cooperation activities, contributing to connecting Romania with ASEAN and strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of both sides.

On this occasion, ASEAN countries organized activities to showcase the unique culture, tourism, and cuisine of their nations, reflecting the diversity of identities and cultures, as well as the spirit of solidarity and cohesion of the ASEAN community.

The event was a resounding success, actively promoting the image of ASEAN in general and Vietnam in particular, leaving a deep impression on the attendees and building, strengthening friendships with countries and connections with the local business community.
