Solemn ASEAN flag raising ceremony in Frankfurt am Main

Attending the ceremony were Ms. Karin Muller, State Secretary of Hessen; the Consulate Generals and Consuls of ASEAN countries in Frankfurt am Main, along with numerous guests.

Ms. Marie Yvette Bazon Abalos, Consul General of the Philippines in Frankfurt am Main, delivered a welcome speech.

Vietnamese Consul General in Frankfurt am Main Luu Xuan Dong was unable to attend due to participating in the 33rd Diplomatic Conference in Hanoi and sent his respectful greetings and best wishes to the delegates.

In a speech at the ceremony, a representative from the Philippine Consulate General emphasized ASEAN's significance in promoting peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region, while affirming ASEAN's increasingly important role on the international stage.

State Secretary Karin Muller highly appreciated the cooperative relationship between Hessen and ASEAN countries, expressing a desire to continue strengthening cooperation in economic, trade, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The highlight of the ceremony was the ASEAN flag raising ritual, symbolizing the spirit of solidarity, diversity, and shared aspirations for development among member countries. After the ritual, delegates took commemorative photos under the ASEAN flag.

The program continued with special artistic performances showcasing the cultural identity of ASEAN member countries, including the traditional Nora dance of Thailand – a UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage, the Tari Bapang dance of Indonesia, a solo performance of the Vietnamese monochord “Người ơi người ở đừng về”, and a special performance by the Philippine Consulate General.

The program concluded with a Potluck gathering featuring a variety of traditional dishes from ASEAN countries. This event not only showcased the beauty of culinary culture but also contributed to strengthening friendship, solidarity, and mutual understanding among member countries and with partners in Germany.

The flag raising ceremony commemorating the 59th anniversary of ASEAN's founding at Villa Hanoi Frankfurt am Main affirmed the spirit of unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility of the ASEAN community in building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region, while continuing to strengthen cooperative relations between ASEAN, Hessen, and the Federal Republic of Germany.
