A working delegation from the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, led by Vice Chairman Cao Van Cuong, recently conducted an inspection of urgent IUU fishing prevention tasks at Hai Chau port (Ngoc Son ward) and Lach Bang fishing port (Hai Binh ward).

Through the inspection, the management of fishing vessels has gradually become more orderly, with no vessels violating foreign waters. The 24/7 journey monitoring, handling of disconnected vessels, boundary breaches, and management of ineligible vessels have been strictly implemented. To date, the province has completed all 19 tasks assigned by the Government related to combating IUU fishing.

Alongside the achievements, the delegation also pointed out some issues such as the unscientific arrangement of docking at ports, posing potential safety risks, and inadequate environmental sanitation at fishing ports.

Following the on-site inspection, Vice Chairman Cao Van Cuong acknowledged and highly appreciated the regulation and arrangement of vessels at the fishing ports, which basically meet the requirements. The inspection and control of the fleet and cross-checking of fishing data have shown positive changes.

To contribute to the country's efforts to lift the "yellow card" on seafood by 2026, Mr. Cuong urged local authorities, the Border Guard, Fisheries Inspection, and the Thanh Hoa Fishing Port and Vessel Registration Management Board to continue strengthening communication and closely managing the fleet. He emphasized the need to decisively prevent ineligible fishing vessels from operating, require vessels 15 meters or longer to dock at designated ports for unloading to ensure traceability, and intensify inspections and strict handling of IUU violations. Additionally, he called for scientific and safe docking arrangements.

Regarding Hai Chau fishing port, recently designated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment as a port for offshore fishing vessels, Vice Chairman Cao Van Cuong requested the Ngoc Son ward People's Committee to promptly repair and upgrade infrastructure, install necessary equipment for stable operation, and consider proposals to expand the port to enhance exploitation and management efficiency.
