Celebration of the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day in Hong Kong (China)
WVR - On the evening of August 25, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau (China) solemnly organized the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2026), with the participation of nearly 300 guests.

The event was attended by Mr. Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr. Hua You, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in Hong Kong; representatives from the Hong Kong Government and Central Chinese agencies in Hong Kong; Consuls General and representatives of the diplomatic corps; along with numerous representatives from the business, financial, academic, cultural, artistic, media sectors, and the Vietnamese community in Hong Kong and Macau.
In her speech at the ceremony, Consul General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau Le Duc Hanh emphasised the historical significance of the National Day, September 2, 1945, and the 81-year journey of building, safeguarding, and developing the country. From a nation that endured war and numerous hardships, Vietnam today has become a dynamic economy, deeply integrated into the region and the world, with new development drivers based on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

The Consul General affirmed that within the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China and the building of a Vietnam-China Community with a shared future, the Vietnam-Hong Kong relationship continues to develop positively and substantively. The special historical ties between Vietnam and Hong Kong are being continued through the robust expansion of cooperation in economics, trade, investment, judiciary, education, academia, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. By 2025, Vietnam will become Hong Kong's third-largest global trading partner; Vietnam continues to support Hong Kong's accession to the RCEP and enhances economic integration with ASEAN and the region.

On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Financial Secretary Paul Chan congratulated the Government and people of Vietnam on the occasion of National Day and highly appreciated Vietnam's development achievements and the strong momentum in Hong Kong-Vietnam relations.
Mr. Paul Chan emphasised that Vietnam is currently Hong Kong's largest trading partner in ASEAN; bilateral trade has maintained strong growth in recent years, demonstrating the increasing complementarity between the two economies. As an international financial centre, Hong Kong is ready to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in finance, infrastructure, green transition, and international capital connectivity, while also serving as a bridge between Vietnam and the mainland Chinese market, particularly the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. He also highlighted the role of people-to-people exchanges and cultural cooperation in enhancing understanding and connections between the two sides, expressing a hope to welcome more Vietnamese tourists, artists, and performers to Hong Kong in the near future.

A highlight of this year’s celebration was a cultural and artistic program showcasing the distinctive cultural features of Vietnam and its people to audiences in Hong Kong and international friends. The program opened with a piano performance by artist Tra Nguyen, featuring the piece “Ky uc dong song”, (Memories of the River) evoking the life, memories, and cultural space of Vietnam.
Following that, the monologue musical “Nhung dieu quen thuoc la ky” (Strangely Familiar Things) by journalist Trac Thuy Mieu, with a story about Hanoi pho and its distinctive ingredients and spices, introduced the cultural values associated with Vietnamese life and cuisine in a cosy manner. The performance was followed by a real-life experience as guests enjoyed beef pho, spring rolls, and traditional dishes prepared by artisans who traveled directly from Vietnam to Hong Kong.
The Vietnamese cultural space at the event was further highlighted by the presence of the ao dai and two designers, Vu Ngoc Tu and Dinh Truong Tung (VUNGOC&SON), contributing to the introduction of the blend between traditional values and contemporary creativity of Vietnam.
The celebration took place in a solemn, friendly, and open atmosphere, helping to promote the image of a peaceful, dynamic, culturally rich, and integrated Vietnam; while also enhancing people-to-people exchanges, fostering understanding, and creating new connections for Vietnam-Hong Kong cooperation within the broader Vietnam-China relationship.
