The festival’s detailed programme is expected to be finalised by the province this week before being submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.

According to a draft proposal prepared by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which is now being finalised, the 10th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival in 2027 will be held under the theme “Buon Ma Thuot - The World’s Coffee Destination”.

The festival is expected to feature 30 activities, including three pre-event communications and promotional initiatives. These will run from November 2026 to April 2027 and include a communications campaign, a digital content creation competition scheduled for October to December 2026, and a series of official announcement press conferences in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Dak Lak.

A further 21 major activities will take place in the western part of Dak Lak Province, with the main programme concentrated in March 2027. Highlights will include the opening ceremony on March 8 at March 10 Square, a street festival, Vietnamese speciality coffee week combined with a food tour, and an international conference entitled “Buon Ma Thuot - The Robusta Capital of the World”.

Other events will include a coffee industry trade fair and innovation space, a farmers’ competition, a light festival, a Central Highlands rock music night, the immersive performance “Memories of the Longhouse”, activities honouring coffee growers, and the launch of Buon Ma Thuot’s “Coffee Street”.

Six additional linked activities are planned for the eastern part of the province. A key highlight will be the roadshow “Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Journey - From the Great Highlands to the Blue Sea”, connecting Buon Ma Thuot with Tuy Hoa. The programme will also feature photo and check-in spots, marine, ecological and community-based tourism experiences, and a week of free coffee.

The festival aims to promote the Buon Ma Thuot coffee brand, advance Vietnamese speciality coffee and attract investment in deeper coffee processing. It will also honour farmers and showcase the cultural identity of the region’s ethnic communities. Organisers expect the event to attract around 1.3 million visits.

Dak Lak Province also hopes the festival will generate sustainable development opportunities by creating new cultural spaces and tourism products that operate year-round, providing long-term livelihoods for local residents and businesses.

Mr. Trinh Duc Minh, chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association, has called for the festival’s programmes to consistently highlight Vietnam’s position as a global Robusta powerhouse, with Dak Lak’s Robusta coffee serving as a leading representative of the country’s production.

He said the festival should focus on promoting the brand, value and international standing of Robusta coffee from Dak Lak and Vietnam.

Vietnam recently dominated the Global Robusta Awards 2026 in China, accounting for nine of the 10 samples shortlisted for the global Top 20. Members of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association in Dak Lak contributed six of those samples: Aeroco Coffee with two, Coffee Cherry with two, Ro Coffee & Roaster with one, and PM Coffee with one.

Dak Lak’s coffee samples scored highly in the international competition thanks to rigorous cultivation and harvesting practices, with 98-100% of the cherries picked at the red-ripe stage. These practices were combined with specialised processing methods, including Natural and controlled-fermentation Honey processes, helping elevate locally grown Robusta into the Fine Robusta category.
